Assignment: Outer Space (1961) aka Space Men Rik Von Nutter - Ray Peterson (IZ41) Gaby Farinon - Lucy (Y13) David Montresor - George, the Commander Archie Savage - Al (X15) Alain Dijon - Archie (Y16) Frank Fantasia - Sullivan Joe Pollini - King 116 David Maran - Davis Jose Nestor - Venus Commander Anita Todesco - Venus Control It's 2160. Reporter Ray Peterson is assigned to a space station to report on routine radation checks. At the station he manages to get himself involved in a secret mission . The mission is to stop Alpha 2, a runaway space ship on a course for Earth. The ship's photonic engines will burn the Earth up. (A similar idea is used in an episode of Space: 1999.) Both the crew of the ship that carries the reporter to the space station and the crew of the station resent having a reporter forced on them by the High Command. The ship's engineer refers the reporter as "Leech", explaing that on this ship he's nothing but a parasite. Peterson does nothing to lessen their rescentment. The station commander and its female navigator are a couple but of course Peterson comes along and makes a triangle. This Italian made film is not a bad little space opera. An English dubbed version of Assignment: Outer Space is available on DVD along with Voyage to the Prehistoric Planet (Russian) and Warning From Space (Japanese). The disc costs 7 or 8 dollars.
