I had a monster movie marathon with my sons today and this was the first one we watched. I have actually never seen the film before and have wanted to check it out for along time, I always thought the monster was cool looking. We all liked it alot. I thought the plot was similar to the Thing, with a group of scientists holed up and isolated battling an unknown alien plant/vegetation monster. However, there were several differences and also some things this films did that seem to be copied more than a little in ALIEN. The whole idea of embryonic aliens gestating inside a human host started right here, the little monsters even leave nasty wounds when they leave the body, though nothing like the gory chestbursters! I liked the alien suit, he looks sort of like a mole with a big head and three clawed hands. This was directed by Gene Corman, Roger's brother, who also directed the great Giant Leeches around the same time. Roger himself had used the idea of isolated scientists battling a monster that absorbs the personalities of those it kills in ATTACK OF THE CRAB MONSTERS a year or two earlier.

Picked this up last year or so on one of those Platinum box sets. I hadn't seen it in ages. It is an enjoyable film. I also like the look of the Blood Beast and the shadowy sequences.
