Here's a wacky mid 60s piece of fluff! The monster is cool in a cheesy way-he looks like a pointy headed Creature from the black Lagoon with a scaly body covered in seaweed. The suit and mask are not very good at all..but that can be overlooked because it turns out to be exactly what it is- a guy in a monster suit-in the actual plot! Of course, he's going around killing those pesky beach kids and his cheating wife, not trick or treating or making his own 8mm home monster movies. The killer is Jon Hall, former Invisible Man and universal's "King of technicolor"! Hall also directed this nutty movie himself. By this time, Hall had actually retired from acting and was making a very nice living for himself developing underwater film cameras and renting them to studios. There is alot more beach party shenanigans than monster attacks, but it's still fun and goofy. The songs are mediocre except for one terribly bad yet funny song called "Monster In the Surf" that is sung by one of the beach kids with a lion puppet(I'm not kidding) and one of the girls talking in a goofy little girl voice! Frank Sinatra, Jr did the music and I'm sure his dad was so proud!! Actually the score music is quite good-surf guitar type stuff, but the songs are nothing great at all! The beach girls themselves are quite nice-they were the dancers from the famous Whiskey-A-Go-Go nightclub! The Image Wade Williams dvd is great-the movie is letterboxed and the print is great. The original trailer and a nice photo gallery are included as well as many trailers for other availible discs. Originally this movie hit the drive-ins with MONSTROSITY(aka THE ATOMIC BRAIN)! The funny thing is I watched them back to back one night and then found out they were an actual double bill back in the day afterwards! I must be psychic, or psycho or something!
