i'm not inclined to believe the Ultraman part, but i'd like to see more Shadow Warriors as well. is this the series that has 160 + episodes?

I'm not sure. I do know it had several sequels. I have a couple episodes of Kage no Gundan II as well.

With the 7 DVD set of the complete first season of Shadow Warriors (Kage no Gunden) Best Buy includes 2 bonus DVDs: Shogun's Ninja and Shogun's Shadow. These bonus films are in a double DVD case with a label designed to match the series box. Bestbuy price is $59.99 (plus tax).
The series is available for $43.91 at deepdiscount.com but the two Sonny Chiba films are not included.

There were four sequels to the KAGE-NO GUNDAN series, ending with the BAKUMATSU-HEN miniseries which I watched when I lived in Tokyo. Several years of KAGE-NO GUNDAN were shown in Hawaii, Sacramento (north of San Francisco) and Los Angeles, back in the 1980s. It all started with the movie HATTORI HANZO KAGE-NO GUNDAN, which did not star Shinichi Chiba (he did choreograph the fight scenes).
