That is why I did not post anything, I was waiting for you to put in an Inframan thread. I wouldn't have felt right if I had started it! It was a cool little flick!

I was wondering if this one ever made it on tv,and if it did,how come I missed it?!?I do remember seeing a copy of it at Blockbuster but it wasn't until I got a copy of it at a convention did I get to see it.
What I don't get is how come everyone claims it was a Hong Kongese attemtp at an Ultraman type character. He only grows big once and it is very brief. It is more in line with some of the stuff Toei put out in the 70's and 80's.

It's very much a synthesis of the two styles.

It's because when the majority of people saw this and wrote stuff about it (in the US) only Ultraman was known to them (unless they lived in Hawai'i or some place with a large Asian population).

I thought of Kamen Rider, but then I spent 3 years in Hawaii in the 70s. I don't like Ultraman so I wouldn't think to compare something I like to it, and I like Infra-Man enough to have a small web page about it. I have an English dubbed vhs tape and the English subed VCD. I actually like the dubbed version better. That's not normally the case.
My intial reaction to Infra-Man was "This should be a tv series". I still think so.

Well, I think the basic design of Infra-Man and his neo Science Patrol are influenced by the Ultra series. However, the fight sequences and the villains are much more similar to Kamen Rider and similar tokusatsu series.
I think it's no accident that his name in Chinese is meant to recall both heroes. Ultraman is "Superman", Kamen Rider is "Masked Superman" and Infra-Man is "Chinese Superman".
I agree about the dubbed version. I like it more too.

I agree- the dub is much better. But that could be because we all have heard it the most.

i thought i had stickied this. anyway, i'm watching the HK version now, and it sure seems like there are scenes in it that i've not seen in the US version. so i'll watch that next and compare. i haven't watched "our" version since i got the new disc, but it'll make for interesting viewing. i know the music is different, but does anyone know of anything else? a boot to the head of the first person who says "dubbing"!

Chad< I warned you! I watched some of the US version again, and while lots of the sound effects are the same, the soundtrack sound different- the music has been changed, and for the better, really. I think that's odd, but perhaps it was done so they could claim "stereo-infra sound".

Anybody know the exact date Inframan originally came out? All I can find is the year (1975).

i'd like to see that on the big screen, but i'd also love to see the US version. it never showed up in Longmont, CO during it's release, but i reckon it did in Boulder. wish i had thought to look in the papers of surrounding areas.
the things kids know and don't know still surprises me.
