The Captains - documentary on the starship captains from Star Trek, Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager, Enterprise and the reimanging of Star Trek film. The role destroyed the actors marriages, they were working 16 hour days, no time for family. Kate Mulgrew's children to this day will not watch Voyager, they still hate it for taking their mother away for seven years.
Avery Brooks (Captain Sisco) is weird. He's a college professor (music), I couldn't make heads or tales out of what he was saying. He's got the same mustache and beard, only gray.
Shatner wrote, directed and produced this. Naturally the documentary shows him with Chris Pine for the least amount of time.

Sapphire & Steel (originally was going to be called Time Menders)
Sapphire (Joanna Lumley) and Steel (David McCallum) are extraterrestrials sent to Earth to fix things when time goes wrong. Sapphire is the more friendly of the two. She can temporarily reverse time. She can also create illusions. When she uses her powers her eyes turn blue. She dresses in blue. Steel as fits his name is cold and hard. He can reduce his temperature to near absolute zero to freeze the hostile forces.
There are 127 of these beings but 12 are unstable and can't be used wherever there is life. So theoretically Sapphire and Steel can call upon 113 others to help. In the first adventure Lead comes to help. Lead appears as a large, very strong, black man. Later episodes will feature Silver, who annoys Steel by flirting with Sapphire.
Each episode is 25 minutes. There are six stories each of varying numbers of episodes. The first adventure is six episodes, the last only four. Like Blakes 7 the series ends on a cliffhanger that was supposed to be resolved in the next season which never came about.

CAPTAIN KRONOS: VAMPIRE HUNTER (1974) Produced by Brian Clemens (writer and director) and Albert Fennell, the creators of The Avengers TV series. Most of the cast are unfamiliar, exceptions being Caroline Munro and Ian Hendry (for whom The Avengers was originally created). Not your standard vampire film. In this Hammer film the vampire can function during the day, but it keeps itself completely covered in black, including a hood. In one scene the vampire walking by flowers causes the flowers to wilt. The vampire in this film doesn't bite people on the neck or drain blood. Instead it kisses its victims and drains their youth causing them to die of old age. According to Professor Grost there are many different kinds of vampires, each killing its victims in a different way and each requiring a different method to kill, stakes through the heart don't work on all of them. Some for example, have to be strangled. And a cross is only effective if the wilder has strong faith and is in their right mind, memorized/hypnotized persons can't exercise their faith so the cross is useless. This was planned to be the first in a series of films but the box office was disappointing. Hammer horror was on its way out.

FILMS OF FURY-Ric Meyers' recent documentary about martial arts films wasn't as cringe-worthy as I'd feared it would be(though I'd certainly question his affirmation of Buster Keaton&Gene Kelly as exponents of kung fu whilst denigrating James Cagney as a non-martial artist despite Cagney having been a practicing judoka;I thoroughly enjoyed seeing Cagney&his real-life sensei fighting one another in ''BLOOD ON THE SUN''...)Interestingly,whoever compiled the trailer for this doc cued up a clip of Lo Lieh portraying Pai Mei with the caption identifying Lo as Gordon Liu(!),though both actors are identified correctly in the feature itself. All in all,Meyers' effort could fit in comfortably as an introduction to kung fu films for newer fans

A PLACE OF ONE'S OWN (1945) FEAR IN THE NIGHT (1947) - a young DeForest Kelley dreams that he commits a murder, when he awakes he finds that the murder has taken place.
The second adventure in Sapphire and Steel takes a great risk. The ending makes you despise Steel. And his actions come back to bite him in the final episode of the series. Unfortunately Sapphire has to suffer with him.

Sanctuary season 4. Stupid Syfy channel canceled it, so no fifth season, which means Bigfoot is really dead, since there wont be an episode telling us he was just unconscious. Fortunately that was the only cliffhanger.

Burke's Law - 60s tv series about a millionaire who's a police captain. Every episode is titled 'Who Killed <insert name>?" After a couple seasons it could changed to "Amos Burke: Secret Agent". The audience that liked it as a crime drama didn't like it as a spy drama and it was canceled. Oddly enough it came back in the 90s as Burke's Law, he was back to being a cop. The title Burke's Law comes from Amos Burke's personal rules, which he quotes from once or twice in each episode. They seam to all be negative ie "Never drink martinis with a beautiful suspect. That's Burke's Law". Also at least once an episode when he discovers there is a beautiful woman to question he tells his subordinates "You'd better stay in the foxhole, this is for your old captain to handle".

KG:KARATE GIRL-Rina Takeda really impressed me with her debut effort,HIGH KICK GIRL;her work in KG is no less impressive plus we're treated to another rising young star,Hina Tobimatsu.Absolutely dug this flick!
WARRIORS OF THE RAINBOW:SEEDIQ BALE-Account of the 1930 Wushe Incident,in which Chieftain Mona Rudo led his native Seediq tribe in revolt against Imperial Japan's occupation of Taiwan. Some insight into the Seediq people's beliefs lends this film a bit of depth,as does Taiwan's natural beauty(which is definitely used to GREAT effect...)

The Persuaders (1971) American millionaire playboy Danny Wilde (Tony Curtis) and English millionaire playboy Brett Rupert George Robert Mark Anthony Andrew Sinclair, 15th Earl of Marnock (Roger Moore), work for Judge Fulton, retired (Laurence Naismith) in pursing international criminals. In some cases they don't realize they are in fact working for the judge who is manipulating things behind the scenes. Seven of the twenty-four episodes were scripted by Terry Nation, creator of the daleks and the Blakes 7 TV series. Although a movie remake of this TV series was announced in 2005 it never came about.

SERBUAN MAUT(THE RAID)-This is the second teaming of Welsh director Gareth Evans&Indonesian silat stylist-turned-actor Iko Uwais.I really dug their first effort,''MERANTAU'',&when I heard they were making another film together it piqued my interest... There've been tons of reviews all over the Internet regarding this film&all I have to say is-the movie DEFINITELY lives up to the hype!Uwais once again brings the action but also shows some acting ability in his role as a rookie SWAT team member sent along with his squad to bring down a Jakarta underworld boss.If I were to compare THE RAID to any other film I'd probably pick EASTERN CONDORS in that, although there's plenty of martial arts fisticuffs on display we also have quite a bit of shoot 'em up goings-on.''Action packed'' would be an understatement...

What's My Line? - on Youtube. I love this series from the 1950s and 60s so much I haven't even put the 4 DVDs I have from Netflix in the drive. Most clips are under 10 minutes but I watch hours of them at a time. Both the ordinary people with odd jobs and the celebrity guests clips are great fun.

Last 4 episodes of Sapphire and Steel, knowing it would end on an never resolved cliff hanger didn't reduce the shock.
First five episodes of the new Doctor Who. Fifth is farewell to Rory and Amy. River agrees to travel with him on occasion but not regularly and we won't get to see his new companion until Christmas because they like splitting the season so half runs this year and half next. with a Christmas special in between. Makes no sense to me. Episodes 7-14 should be season 8 then but they're not.
