Volume 11 the graphic sequence that brings up the menu and the menu itself are different then on the previous volumes. Different background, larger text.
Volume1 11 disc 1 has a warning that some episodes have video problems that are on the masters and could not be corrected. The problems turn out to be video scrolling up and down during one scene and a little fuss on the bottom of the screen on another scene.
Plost wise. "Eve" who was made to be Adam's mate and has the spirit of an executed murderess animating her body is obssessed with Jeff Clark whom she believes is actually Peter Pradford, her former lover from 1795. Jeff is engaged to Vicky. Roger had a nightmare in which Vicky dies if she marries Jeff. Dr. Hoffman is trying to save Barnabas from the vampire Angilque. Since she disobyed Nicholas and nearly killled Barnabas (which would cause Adam's death) he's decided to stake her but can't find her because she moved out taking his magic mirror with her.

there are plenty of whiny babies who can't stand their precious DVDs to have the slightest bit of imperfection, instead of being happy to have the shows they "love" at their fingertips, able to be watched whenever they want.
this is such a cool show.

Volume 11 disc 2 has the same warning message. There are lines through the middle of some scenes in a few episodes.
The Eve story line seems to have come to an end, as has Nicholas Blair.
A new character has been introduced Christopher Jennings, twin brother of Tom. The Jennings family likes the Collins family seems to be cursed. Tom was turned into a vampire and Christopher is apparently a werewolf. He hasn't been seen as a wolfman, but he was afraid of a fullmoon coming and is heard growling when he kills a hotel clerk. I was surprised by this because everything I've read about Dark Shadows refers to Quinton Collins as the werewolf. He's not been introduced yet.
I'm guessing that we'll soon be saying farewell to Adam and Jeff Clark/Peter Pradford.

volume 11, disc 2 introduces some new cast members: Betsy Durkin - Victoria Clark nee Winters (replacing Alexandra Moltke) Don Briscoe - Christ Jennings (werewolf) Denise Nickerson - Amy Jennings (Chris' sister)
The original Vicky actress has left the series, to have a baby. She's been replaced. The character just doesn't seem the same with a new actress and will eventually be written out. Victoria Winters was originally the central character. Dan Curtis created the series after having a dream about a woman on a bus. That woman became Victoria Winters heading for a new life as governess and tutor for David Collins.

Volume 11, disc 3:
Anqilque has not been seen since she spoke Diablos (aka Satan), but Barnabas believe that she will return someday.
Barnabas shot Adam. Adam went to Professor Stokes who had his wound treated then hid him when Jeff Clark came to the door. According to what I've read in other forums the plot switches to other problems and somehow never makes it back to Adam.
Peter Bradford alias Jess Clark has vanished (returned to 1795). Vicky insists that he's been in her room. He's not seen there but the watch she gave him as a wedding present is found on the floor. Mrs. Stoddard's concern for Vicky seems to have driven her obsessesion with being buired alive from her mind.
A red pentagram, which only Chris Jennnings and the television audience can see, marks victims of the werewolf. We finally see the werewolf in the 6th episode on the disc. The werewolf jumps through a window giving this episode a stunt coordinator, Alex Stevens. The IMdb lists him as playing the werewolf but the onscreen credits list him as stunt coordinator.
Two invisible ghosts are haunting Collinwood. Quinton Collins is leading David Collins and Chris Jennings' little sister Amy into finding a hidden room. A woman named Magda speeks through Carolyn Stoddard and tries to lead the adults into stopping the children with dire warnings that "he" must not return.

Volume 11 disc 4
A lot happens in the 10 episodes on this disc:
David and Amy meet the ghosts of Quinton Collins and a woman named Beth. After that they're not same. Possessed by the spirits they are forced to "play the game" which is actually a scheme to destroy the Collins family. Devid Selby appears briefly as Quinton Collins's ghost Terry Crawford as Beth's ghost. They are not seen again on this disc.
A medium Janet Findley (played by Cavanda Humphrey) offers to help the ghosts find peace but her offer is violently rejected.
Roger Collins leaves on a business trip to London and so is unaware of what follows.
Vicky vanishes, written out of the series.
With Vicky gone Mrs Stoddard once again becomes obssessed with the thought that she will be buried alive.
Maggie Evens replaces Vicky as the governess for David and Amy.
Joe Haskell is attacked by a werewolf, survives and learns his cousin Chris is the monster. [Does this mean Joe will become a werewolf too?]
Carolyn returns home to learn the sad news about Vicky and her mother.
Mrs. Stoddard has a nightmare in which Cassandra appears to torment her.
Joe sees Chris transform and the sight drives him mad. Joe had shot Christ but it was unclear whether the bullets were silver and therfore deadly or not. Joe tries to "save" Amy by taking her away from Collinswood but she escapes him. Joe thinks Chris is still after him. Is he? Or is it part of Joe's madness?
Mrs. Stoddard enters Amy's room and finds Cassandra there. Whether she is really there or only exists in Mrs. Stoddard's mind is unclear.
Joe runs away without Amy.
Mrs. Stoddard is found "dead" in Amy's room. The television audience can hear her saying that she's not dead but Dr. Hoffman and Carolyn cannot.
The bonus interview is with the Carolyn actress.

volume 12 disc 1
Same disclaimer about video issues. Second episode on the disc has a green tint which washes out other colors, happens mostly during closeups.
The Amy actress was the gum chewer in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
With Roger in London (I'm still astonished that Barnabas would allow Roger to go to London where he won't find anyone who's ever heard of Barnabas) Barnabas takes charge of carrying out Mrs. Stoddard's wishes as stated in her will. Mrs. Stoddard is placed in her own private tomb. Carolyn is the only one to remember that her mother said she would be buried alive, and she insists that her mother is not actually dead.
Amy tells David that she knows his mother isn't dead. David does not believe her but it wouldn't matter if he did because the he and Amy are again controled by the ghosts.
Barnabas plans to take David and Amy to Boston, to place them in sperate boarding schools. Under the direction of Quentin's ghost they scheme to trick Barnabas into thinking that Vicky is sending him messages from the past. Their pranks arent very succesful, but then things start happening they are not responsible for and apparently neither is Quentin. Maggie now sleeping in Vicky's room witneses the music box Barnabas gave Vicky playing itself. David and Amy agree that Quentin doesn't have the power to do that. When David takes a photograph of Barnabas and Carolyn the developed photo shows a third person, a woman, who seems to be hanging. Through the disconnected telephone Quentin tells Amy he is not responsible for the photo. We don't actually hear his voice.
Joe Haskell has a complete mental break down after a dream in which he is attacked by both of his cousins, Tom Jennings the vampire and Chris Jennings the werewolf. Dr. Hoffman takes him to Wincliff, in a straightjacket. Joe doesn't know that Barnabas destroyed Tom by exposing him to sunlight.
At the Collins family cemetary, which David says is never used anymore, David and Amy find a freshly dug grave to the left of the grave of Peter Pradford. When they return to the same spot a few minutes later the hole is filled in. When Barnabas and Dr. Hoffman go to the cemetary the find a tombstone that was not there before. It reads "VICTORY WINTERS HANGED AS A WITCH IN 1796".
Most of the sixth episode on this DVD consists of flash backs to when Barnabas killed Lt. Forbes and Barnabas' father chained him in his coffin. Barnabas assumes that he goes back in time and lets Lt. Forbes live he can force the man to recant his testimony to save Vicky. Barnabas calls upon the spirit of Peter Bradford and is sent back in time. Barnabas is once more a vampire.
Barbanas changes history by changing his actions. He does not kill Nathan Forbes but bites him to make him recant his testimony instead. Instead of chaining Barnabas in his coffin Barnabas' father is sent on a wild goose chase believing Barnabas has fled. Peter and Vicky are ultimately saved and leave town (heading west) without ever realsing that Barnabas is a vampire. Anqilqiue appears to be destroyed, again. Lt. Forbes tells his scattered brained wive about Barnabas and she tells the countess. Blaming Barnabas for Josette's death the countess vows to destroy him.
Barnabas returns to the cemetary expecting to find himself back in the 1960s. When nothing happens he realises that the rest of his past must be played out. He takes Ben to the secret room in the Collins family crypt and tells Ben that he must bring chains tomorrow and wrap them around the coffin. Neither man knows that the countess is watching and listening. The countess leads Lt. Forbes to the crypt. Forbes places a wooden stake against Barnabas' chest and raises (a very modern looking) hammer. As Forbes brings the hammer down there is a loud noise. The episode (the week) and the DVD come to an end.
Bonus interview is of Jonathan Frind.

I suspened my Netflix account for 3 months. As a result I went from top of list for Dark Shadow discs to bottom. My account's active again but now volume 12 disc 2 is on "very long wait". It could be several months before I see any more Dark Shadows. I check another rental site but their discs are back logged as well. Seems this part of Dark Shadows is extremly popular.

1897 story line main cast:
Jonathan Frid - Barnabas Collins (vampire) Grayson Hall - Magda Rakosi (gypsy) Isabella Hoopes - Edith Collins (matriarch, doest last long) Thayer David - Sandor Rakosi (gypsy) David Selby - Quenton Collins Joan Bennett - Judith Collins Terry Crawford - Beth Chavez (housekeeper) Louis Edmonds - Edward Collins David Hensey - Jamison Collins Kathryn Leigh Scott - Rachel Drummond (governess) John Karlen - Carl Collins Humbert Allen Astrado - Evan Hanley (Collins family lawyer) Roger Davis - Dirk Wilkins (Collins estate caretaker) Lara Parker - Angelique (witch)
Volume 13 disk 1 has Barnabas transported to 1897. Since he was a vampire locked in his coffin at this time that is what he becomes.
The gypsy Sandor looking for the Collins family's hidden jewels removes the chains from Barnabas coffin. Barnabas bites him. Now Sandor has no choice but to serve Barnabas. Barnabas pays Sandor's wife Magda to help protect him during the day. All three are residing in the "Old House". Barnabas tells the other Collins that he's from England (once again pretending to be his own decendent).
Blacksheep Quenton Collins returns home when he learns the head of the family, his grandmother Edith Collins is dying. He hopes to inherit her wealth and wants to learn the family secret but Edith insinsts that she will only tell Edward Collins, the oldest of her grand children. Quenton assumes the secret is about the Collins family wealth. It isn't.
Judith tries to bribe Quenton to leave but he won't take the money ($1,000). Then she gets him to promise to leave if their nephew Jamison asks him to leave. Jamison (who looks like David which explains the ghost Quenton's interest in David) idolizes his uncle Quenton and refuses to ask him to go away.
Beth Chavez, Collins family housekeeper is in love with Quenton even though she knows he is no good.
As Edward arrives to learn the family screet, Barnabas introduces himself to Edith. She reacts in horror. One guess what the family secret is.

John Karlen plays crazy people well.
SPOILERS
Also in volume 13 disc 2: Edith Collins briefly mentions Daniel (from 1790s storyline), her father. She thinks his spirit is coming for her.
Edith Collins dies without revealing to Edward the family secret. Quenton suggests that perhaps she told Barnabas. Barnabas naturally denies it, since he IS the family secret. When Edith's will vanishes Barnabas correctly surmises that Quenton has it and he tells Quenton that Edith's spirit wont rest until he returns it. Edith's glove is found on the floor outside Quenton's room. Some one ransacks his room (he blames Barnabas). Quenton has a nightmare in which he is haunted by his grandmother.
Evan Hanley is a crooked lawyer and dabler in the occult. He plots with Quenton to have a forged will made which gives Quenton the Collins family wealth.. Learning that Barnabas stands in the way and has some supernatural powers (Quenton believes Barnabas responsible for his nightmare) Evan carries out a cerimony to summon supernatural help. The result is the freeing of Anelique from hell. Unlike Humbert Allen Astrado's previous character Evan Hanley has no power over Angelique.
Dirk Wilkins loves Beth and hates Quenton. He's not afraid to have Quenton know it.
Angelique is the same wicked woman as before. Because Rachel resembles Jossete and Barnabas is smitten with her Angelique plots against her as a way of hurting Barnabas. When discoverd on Collins' property by Dirk, Angelique claims to be meeting Quenton. This does not surprise Dirk who mistaking her for a nice lady tries to warn her that Quenton is know good for any woman.
Barnabas succeeds in spoiling the plan to make Quenton master of Collinwood. Judith inherits everything instead. Edith's will does allow Quenton to live in the house for life if he wishes. Its unclear whether the will planted by Barnabas was the real will however. Its possible it was a forgery. Barnabas may have wanted to keep Quenton arround so he can learn what he came to learn. We don't know if Judith's inheritance was legitimate or a part of some plan of Barnabas.
Magda knows someone is hiding in the tower of Collinwood and tells Rachel its an enemy of Barnabas and Rachel. The witch is not hiding in the tower. Magda has some scheme of her own going. Each disc holds two weeks worth of episodes. Naturalyl the last episode, which would have been on a Friday, ends the week with Rachel entering the tower but without showing us who is in the room.
I was enjoying Dark Shadows without that witch. I'm sorry to see her back. The original audience apparently enjoyed her. She bores me. Lara Parker is nuts. In her interviews she dresses in black (apparently were supposed to think she's really a witch) and makes statments which are supposed to be profound but are actually nonsense, attempting to justify her character's behaivor.

Volume 13, disc 3 introduces: Marie Wallace - Jenny Collins Denise Nickerson - Nora Collins Jerry Lacy - Rev. Gregory Trask Marie Wallace played Eve in the Adam storyline. Rachel is attacked by the insane Jenny Collins, Quentin's wife. Rachel does not see her attacker. Nora Collins (Jamison Collin's sister, looks like Amy Jennings) has had a dream in which their mother returns. Judith claims she will never return. Judith and Beth claim no one was in the tower room, that Rachel is imagining things, so Rachel turns to Barnabas for help. Barnabas finds the tower room empty. Angelique appears. She knows Barnabas is from the future and warns him that his presence will change things, not neccesarily for the better. She offers to help, claiming to care for David. Barnabas does not believe her and turns down her help. Magda sees "the mark of death" on Quentin's face and after being paid tells him a woman with the intial J will kill him with a knife. He thinks its his sister Judith. Jenny escapes from her new room in the basement and murders Quentin. Barnabas asks Angelique to raise Quentin (because he was not supposed to die this way). She says she will for a price but doesn't name it. Jamison is not able to accept his uncle's death. In Quentin's room, Jamison plays Quentins gramaphone. Speaking through Jamison, the ghost of Quentin tells his brother Carl that a woman killed him and she's still in the house. Quentin's souless body walks as a zombie, controled by Angelique, who of course only wants to cause Barnabas to suffer. So, in an attempt to save David Collins from the ghost of his great-grand uncle, Barnabas Collins has accidently caused David's grandfather to be posssesed by the same evil spirit. Barnabas really messed up this time. [pun intended] Rachel (who looks like Josette) wants to leave Collinwood but Barnabas talks her into staying. The zombie abducts her and Barnabas can do nothing because its dawn. Sandor rescues Rachel. After sunset, Barnabas tries to cast a spell to send Quentin's spirit out of Jamison's body, back into Quentin's body. Quientin speaks through his own body saying he wants to return to it "but she won't let me". Barnabas takes Jamison to the cemetary to try to conjole Quentin's spirit into fighting Angelique and returning to its body. Quentin's body stands but does not speak and when Barnabas calls Jamison "Jamison" the boy says "I told you not to call me by that name". As if the Collins didn't have enough troubles, Judith answers a knock on the door to find Rev. Gregory Trask wanting entrance. He says Edward sent him so that Jamison and Nora (Edward's children) could attend his school. Apparently Barnabas didn't kill the original "Reverand" Trask soon enough to stop him from having children. Jamison returns to Collinwood. He addresses his aunt Judith as "my dear sister". He tells her "It has failed" and "they are coming". Judith sends the boy to bed. Trask wants to speak to Jamison alone. Judith agrees to let him go up (so he won't meet Barnabas with the zombie). Barnabs and zombie wait in the drawing room. Trask realises that Jamison is possessed by his uncle. Judith has Barnabas show Trask the zombie and explain the situation. Against his better judgement, Barnabas allows Traks to send him and Judith out of the room. Trask says he senses an opposing spirit in Barnabas. Like his ancenestor Rev. Gregory Trask does a lot of ranting and raving about the devil and driving him out. The episode and disc end with a scream from Jamison and Barnabas opening the drawing room door. Interview with Marie Wallace: She's now a photographer but would return to acting if she could play another crazy woman. Someone has worked out the Collins family relationships with a couple of family trees (real world and parallel world) darkshadows.tvheaven.com/tree2.html

Volume 14, disc 1
Interview is with David Selby aka Quenton Collins. Nice to see him smile a friendly smile and laugh cheerfully.
The school teacher saves Nora while Trask saves Jameson and other students from the fire but the building burns down to the ground. [The burning of the building wasn't a very good visual effect.]
Quenton finds Lauara's life giving flame and puts it up but she is able to save herself by calling on Ra to posses the Collin's caretaker who then has the power to restore her (now the flame is in a person rather than an object). Laura turns Jameson against Quenton by telling him that Quenton tried to kill her, without giving any details of course.
Barnabas meets Laura and covers his shock by pretending to be surprised by her youth and beauty. Talking about Larua he says to Charity, (really to the audience of course) "Its impossibe. I saw her face, I heard her voice, I held her hand, but that woman has been dead for over one hundred years".
Anqilque claims to be concerned that Barnabas' mission in this time and his live are both in danger if Rev. Trask #2 finds out Barnabas has bit his daughter. She does not prove her concern by acting on Barnabas' suggestion that he would have no need of Charity or anyone else if she would make him human again. Instead she gives Charity a nightmare about Barnabas in an attempt to scare her off, but Barnabas' power over the girl is too strong.
One morning Quenton tries to get Barnabas to stay for breakfast, Barnabas doesn't eat breakfasts. Quenton sarcastically suggests lunch. Barnabas is saved by the gypsies arriving with news that a messanger from Bangor needs to see him at the Old House immediatly. There is of course no messanger other than a crowing rooster.
Judith offers Rev Trask one of the cottages on Collins land to use as a temporary school while he rebuilds, using her founds. [He's got her fooled.] She's sorry to learn of his poor health. He asks who suggest that his health was bad. Judith tells him that it was his wife. He says that in fact it is his wife whos health is in steadly decline.
After a night with Barnabas, Charity returns to Collinwood where her father has gone looking for her. When she sees him she faints. Rev. Trask and Judith both see the marks on her neck. The next evening Magda warns Barnabas that Trask and Judith saw the marks on Chasity's neck and suggest that Barnabas leave. She'd take her husband and leave town if Barnabas wasn't controling him.
After finding a painting of his uncle's first wife, which of course matches Laura, and finding the woman's tomb to be empty Barnabas is certain now that the woman he just met is the same woman he knew when he was 10 years old. A record book says she died in a fire. Barnabas questions the accuracy of the records knowing how his father faked records before. After stealing a copy of the Egyptian Book of the Dead from Quenton's room (he's caught by Beth who informs Quenton), Barnabas carries out a ceremony to summon his dead aunt's spirit, assuming it will effect Laura since he believes them to be the same person. Laura vanishes from her cottage to appear in the Old House, but now wearing clothes from the previous century. All Barnabas learns is that she is after her children because a frieghtened Charity runs away leaving the door open for Quenton to come in and intterupt the ceremony.
Releasing that Quneton and Barnabas are both against her and learning that Jenny is insane and locked in the basement, Laura tells the mad woman that her husband is still alive and hiding at the Old House, she also arranges for the basement door to be left unlocked. At this point Laura seems to have no plan for dealing with Barnabas.
Armed with a knife Jenny goes to the Old House but Quenton isn't there. Barnabas tricks her into entering Josette's room and locks her in. The crock crows. Barnabas leaves a note for Magda but Quenton finds it and burns it. Quenton is about to unlock the bedroom door and shoot Jenny dead but Beth stops him. Magda finds Quenton and Beth in the parlor she also finds Jennys lockette. She kicks the two introduders out, they don't tell her Jenny is in the house, but Jenny screams. Rushng upstairs Magda is over joyed to find her long lost sister! Magda tells her husband to get a cross, because Jenny "has a devil in her". Jenny has gone from wanting to kill Quenton to believeing that Barnabas and Magda have killed him. She hits Magda over the head with a large book. Looking for Quenton, Jenny enters the unlocked basement and finds the coffin. Crying out that they've murdered Quenton she opens the coffin. Ending credits role. End of episode, end of week, end of DVD.
