volume 14 disc 2
Jenny opens the coffin and concludes that Barnabas is dead. That evening when she sees him talking to Judith, Jenny is terrified and runs out of the house. She goes looking for her husband. Unfortunantly for all concerned she finds him, in the arms of her once trusted servent, Beth. Jenny tries to stab her cheating husband but he disarms her and strangles her to death. He claims he didn't intend to kill her (liar).
When Edward learns Quenton has killed Jenny, he tries to cover it up, claiming Jenny fell down the stairs but Magda finds a button, from Quenton's jacket, clenched in Jenny's fist, and Sandor notices the bruses on the throat. They accusse Quenton of murder but Edward says they have no evince, the could have found the button anywhere, and the authorites will believe the Collins over a pair of gypsies. So Magda promises to put a curse on Quenton.
Having dabled in the occult himself, Quenton believes Magda can curse him. Being willing to do anything for money and not really having loved anyone, Quenton thinks he can buy off Magda. Edward agrees to get Judith to put up the $10,000 bribe on the condition that Quneton signs a paper giving up his inheritance (the right to stay in the family home) and an agreement that he and the gypsies will leave town. The gypsies pretend to accept the bribe but as Magda counts the money, Sandor puts the poition required for the curse in Quenton's drink. After Quenton drinks it Magda throws the money at his feet and tells him the curse will begin that night.
Standing by Jenny's grave, Magda pronounces the curse. Beth watches Quenton have a fit and goes for a doctor. The doctor is unavailable and when Beth comes back with Rachel, who returned from Trask's school, Quenton is gone. At Trask's school Dorcas, another teacher is mutilated by some kind of beast.
Quenton returns in the morning, with clothes torn and bloody. He has no memory of what he did in the night. Evan Hanley, thee Collins family lawyer and occultist talks to Quenton about his not leaving as contracted, then questions Magda about the curse. She pretends that she cast no curse but she's wearing a pentagram necklace to protect herself from the results of her own curse. Evan Hanley returns to Quenton and draws a pentgram on the floor. He tells Quenton to stay inside it that it may draw out the curse but it may also kill him. He wanrns Beth to leave, putting miles between herself and Quenton but does not explain why. Beth doesn't leave and witnesses Quenton's transformation into a were wolf. She stands inside the pentagram and is protected.
Jameson escapes from the locked room in the school. Charity Trask and her future husband go looking for Jameson. Jameson back at home hears them coming and goes out a window. He ends up with his mother. In the woods Beth is attacked by the werewolf. Barnabas and Edward witness the attack. Barnabas drives off the werewolf using his silver wolf-head cane.
Jameson becomes ill and his Laura seems to appect it. She attemps to summoan her daughter to her side but Nora does not respond. When Barnabas appears looking for Jameson, he's stunnded by a blinding light but when it passes he grabs Jameson and returns the boy to his father. Laura now wants revenge against Barnabas. She sends the caretaker Old House and to watch what happens when magical fire attacks Barnabas. Barnabas simply vanishes. She says this proves he's not human. She sends the caretaker to steal Collins family records from the Old House. Stokes diary mentions that Barnabas has a secret but not what the secret is. He took it to his grave. Now the firebug and her accomplis go grave robbing. Some one is watching them. Its clear to the camera but not to them that's it Barnabas. End of episode, week, DVD.
Interview with Kathryn Leigh Scott. She pulled a dirty trick. Ended by saying that a Dark Shadow cast member married a fan met at a Dark Shadows Weekend, but did not name the cast member.

Volume 14, disc 3 (exit Laura Collins)
Barnabas gets the book from Laura but Dirk searches the Old House while Barnabas and the gypsies are out and he finds the coffin. When he tells Laura she realises that Barnabas is a vampire. She attempts to stake Barnabas but Angelique stops her. Angelique claims to be protecting Barnabas out of love. When Angelique tries to stop Laura from leaving the Old House magical fire appears and repels Angelique. Angelique erases Dirk's memory of finding Barnabas' coffin but can't effect Laura's memory.
Angelique and Quenton attempt to conjure Ra to burn up Laura but Laura is the pagan deities servent. Angelique and Quenton call on Set to burn up Ra's servent but Jameson awakes from a nightmare about the Old House burning down and goes there. His appearance breaks the spell.
At Collinwood, Laura tries to tell Judith about Barnabas but Angelique appears and Laura loses her voice. Quenton returns to the Old House and is surprised to see that Angelique has gotten there so quickly. Laura prays silently to Ra (audience hears her thoughts). Angelique bursts into flames infront of a horrified Quenton.
Night falls, Barnabas learns what's happened from Magda. Barnabas believes Angelique saved him just to keep her curse going. Magda's battle with Angelique has weakened her. She doesn't have much time before Ra calls her back. Laura learns from Magda that a silver bullet in the heart will kill Barnabas but has no silver and no time.
Laura gives Dirk a letter, for Judith, telling all about Barnabas but a large bat attacks him. Barnabas and Laura briefly talk about old times, when they lived together in the 1700s. Barnabas was just a boy and Laura was his uncle's first wife. Aunt and nephew loved each other then, now they're bitter enemies. Barnabas asks if she was a Phoenix even then. Laura does not answer. Barnabas shows Laura the dead body of Dirk. He denies killing him but admits to destroying the letter. Laura heads up the stairs to get her son, confident that Barnabas can't stop her without his "protector". She does not notice his smile.
Laura does not find Jameson in his room. Out of the darkness steps a laughing Angelique. Knowing Laura would attempt to destroy her with fire Angelique created a doppleganger, it was that duplicate which Laura destroyed. Edward has hidden the children and won't let Laura see them. She colapses and Edward who still care about her puts her in Jameson's bed and despite Barnabas' warning to light no fires, stoves or candles, lets Laura talk him into lighting a fire in the fireplace, as a dying woman's last request.
Laura uses the fire to communicate with Jameson and learn what room he and Nora are locked in. Laura vanishes from Jameson's room. Edward calls for Barnabas. Before Barnabas follows Edward to the room the children are in he asks Angelique to help him with her powers. Though she claims to have no power over a creature of fire, she is in fact able to cause the children to see Laura as her centuries of living have left her, an old hag. When she appears out of the fire which starts up in their room, the children don't recognise her and reject her. Laura is consumed by her own flames.
Barnaba sends Eward to get an axe to break down the door they can't open because Jameson bolted it from the inside. Barnabas vanishes, repearring inside the locked room. The magic fire goes out. Barnabas opens the door, Edward takes his children away. Later when Edward asks Barnabas how he got inot the locked room Barnabs claims he went into another room, climbed out the window onto a ledge which connects all the rooms and in through the other window.
Evans the Collins family lawyer and pracitioner of the black arts (sounds redundent to me) suggests that to cure Quenton of the werewolf curse they should summon the Devil. They attempt to do so but instead of Satan, "Reverand" Trask appears. Quenton's who's drunk faints when the man in black appears. Trask wanted to talk about the lease for his school. He leaves without doing business.
Mrs Trask has plumb preserves for Judith but Judith isn't home. I could be misreading Mrs Trask, but I don't think Judith should eat those preserves. Quenton implies that Judith is out with Minerva's husband. Mrs Traks lets slip that her husband has had affairs. Evans phones Quenton and Quenton has some news for him. Mr and Mrs Trask have a spat. She accues him of adultery with several wealthy old ladies. He claims he was only discusing business, hoping for donations to the school. He visits the lawyer and blackmails him. The lawyers attempts to imply that he has knowledge of Trask's infidelities fail completly. Trask is either innocent or just too smart to take the bait. Trask accuses him of being a Satanist and implies that he might tell Judith Collins. Trask and the lawyer make a deal off camera.
Evan puts a potion on the pages of an old latin book. "Rev" Trask sends Timothy to translate the book, claiming that the lawyer will help Timothy find a new job in return for this favor. Trask pretends that he wants Timothy and Chastity (they are enganged) to leave to start a new life somewhere else. When Timothy reads the book he licks his fingers to mosition the sticking pages and thus takes in the potion. Its a mind control drug. The lawyer programs Timothy to kill someonme when he sees the Queen of Spades (ala the Manchurian Candidate].
Timothy goes to Magda to buy powdered Nightshade. He claims he found some old books and one had a formula for turning copper into gold (well it wasn't lead) that requires Nightshade. Magada says that "Nightshade only turns warm, living people into cold, dead ones". He offers $10. When she asks who he wants to kill he raises it to $20. She demands $50 and says it will take an hour.
Beth goes to Magda to beg her, as a woman in love with a man to another woman in love with a man, to cure Quenton. Magda refuses. When Beth says she will marry Quenton anyway, Magda lets slip "you would marry him knowing his son...." Now that Beth knows Magda cursed Quenton's male children as well she tells Magda that Jenny gave birth to Quenton's children, twins and a boy and girl. The children have been kept secret. Magda is horrified that she cursed her sister's son (apparently were wolf curses are retroactive to already living children). When asked if she will help now she says yes. But all she tells Beth is to go into town, buy a pentagram and put it around the boy's neck. He must wear it all the days of his life. In despair at what's she's done to her own blood, Magda can offer no other help.
Evan tests his control of Timothy by playing cards with him. He tells Timothy that he will bring him a brandy soon. Then shows him the queen of spades. Timothy puts brandy in a class then adds some of the nighshade and takes the glass to the lawyer. Evans sets the glass down. Timothy picks the glass up and says "you will drink the brandy" and tries to force it into Evan's mouth. Evan manages to avoid drinking it so Tim attempts to strangle him but Evan reminds him that the face of the one he is kill is "in the cards".
Beth tries to get Evans help in finding the werewolf. Her two weeks are nearly up but by claiming that Quinton's son has a fever gets Judith to keeper her own. Beth also convinces her not to tell Quenton he has children.
Barnabas comes visiting and a phone call to Collonwood is for him. Esra, the silversmith, is doing as Barnabas asked and letting him know that someone ordered a pentagram, Beth. Barnabas now knows that Beth knows about the werewolf. He remebers that he and Chris found the grave of a baby boy, with a pentagram around its neck.
Evan tries the card game test again, this time Timothy recognises that Evan is not the target. Timothy shows up at Collinwood to pick up the children to return them to the school, but because the police are hunting the killer beast, Judith won't send the children or Timothy out and offers him a room for the night. Judith plays solitare and is saved being murdered by gunshots from outside the house. She drops the queen of spades and she and Timothy and Beth step outside. Barnabas reports that the beast has been shot in the chest. Beth swoons.
A Bat flies into Beth's bed room. Beth wont tell Barnabas who the werewolf is so he bites her. He learns about Quenton and that he has two children.
Magda loads a gun with silver bullets. Judith won't let her see Beth, so she enters the house through an open window. She over hears Barnabas and Beth. Barnabas will find and protect Quenton and try to force Magda to cure him. After Barnabas leaves Magda tells Beth that she will help Quenton the only way he can be helped but realising that Beth has been bitten by Barnabas declines to say more.
Still in werewolf form a wounded Quenton returns home and frieghtens Judith. Her scream brings Beth. Beths drives Quenton off with the second silver pentagram, which she bought for herself. Quenton goes through a window. Barnabas doesn't see Magda hiding in the forest. Magda doesn't take a chance to rid herself of Barnabas, but when she finds the werewolf she fires. [End of episode, end of week, end of DVD]
Interview is with a man who wrote ariticles promoting Dark Shadows in Sixteen and Tigerbeat as well as other magazines.
I may get volume 14, disc 4 before I put Netflix on hold again in September.

Volume 14, disc 4
Magda shoots the werewolf with a silver bullet, but Barnabas appears and is able to save the monster. Barnabas takes the gun away from Magda but when he opens it he finds only 4 bullets instead of 5. Magda claims to have lost 1.
Quenton is haunted by the ghost of one of the werewolf's victims. A woman only he (and the viewer) can see or hear.
Barnabas tells Quenton that he knows about the curse and that he's trying to find the cure. Barnabas has sent the gypses to find the daughter of a woman who knew more about werewolf curses in the hope that the woman passed her knowledge onto her daughter.
Jameson awakens from a nightmare, screaming "David Collins is dead, David Collins is dead!" Jameson tells Barnabas about the dream. Jameson found Barnabas asleep in a chair. Then the rest of the dream is David's 12th birthday party. His family is acting strange, not like there real life personalities at all. The give him a cake with 12 candles. He expected 13, one to grow on. He asks if Barnabas and Quenton are coming. He's told Barnabas is busy. Of course they don't know Quenton. Quenton does arrive but only David can see or hear him. AsDavid blows out the birthday cake the others vanish, except for Quenton. Quenton tells David the others couldn't see him because he's dead and that David soon will be as well. David says he doesn't want to die. Quenton didn't either. Quenton claims there were three things that if he could have changed any one of he may have not died so soon. 1) A silver bullet was found at Collinwood. 2) The one person who could have saved him was murdered. 3) The only person he ever loved betrayed him.
Edward finds a silver bullet. Barnabas realises he's running out of time.
Dirk is insane. He wants vengence for Laura. He tries to strangle Judith but is stopped by Barnabas. He tries to shoot Barnabas but with ordinary bullets. Barnabas bites Dirk in order to force him to tell him who else knows his secret. Its Jameson of course. Jameson finds the coffin in the celler of the Old House and tells his father but Barnabas had it removed. Barnabas plans to give Edward a vampire to destroy, Dirk. Barnabas' plan goes wrong when Dirk dies alone and disppears afterwards. So Barnabas does not know where Dirk is spending the daylight hours.
After a long abcence Carl returns. With a woman whom he is madly in love with. Unfortnantly for him, she becomes vampire Dirk's first victim. Dirk leaves the body at the Old House, with a rope around its neck, obviously trying to frame Barnabas, but Baranbas finds her body and burries it without telling Carl. Barnabas tells Carl that she's missing and notes that Dirk is also missing, so that Carl concludes that the mad man has abducted his future bride. Note: Carl has not pulled a practical joke for 48 hours, a record for him. Such is the influence of a woman on a man in love. Poor Carl.
At Mrs. Trask's suggestion, Charity breaks off the engagment with Timothy Shaw. He mother plots to have her marry Carl Collins. Charity doesn't object to ending the engagment, but its a different Collins she wants, Barnabas. Mrs. Trask says her insticts are right but Barnabas is just a cousin, go after one of the brothers.
Trask's evil scheme is carried out. Mrs. Trask playing cards turns up the Queen of Spades and Timothy Shaw poisoness her to death. The sorcerer then erases Timothy's memories of the plot before publically accusing Timothy of the murder. A confused Timothy runs away, right to Dirk's hideout. Timothy is bitten and not seen again on this DVD.
Rachel goes to meet Timothy and finds Dirk instead. He bites her.
Judith goes to the Old House to see Barnabas and she too finds Dirk instead. He bites her. Trask finds her, and sees the bite marks. he takes her to her home. Edward still suspects Barnabas but when Judith doesn't react as if Baranbas is the one who bit her, his susipicious are put to rest. Barnabas suggests that it must be the missing Dirk.
Barnabas loads a gun with silver bullets, for Dirk not Quenton, but doesn't use it when Dirk claims that if he dies Rachel dies. Dirk the vampire is still obssessed with the Phoenix and demands that Barnabas bring back Laura. He give him until dawn. Of course she does not return. Dirk climbs into his coffin. Judith shows up at his hiding place. She tells Rachel "I'm sorry" and points a gun at her. End of episode, end of DVD, end of the set.
I may or may not be continuing with Dark Shadows depending on wether or not I get the job I interviewed for. If not I'll put Netflix on hold for 1-3 months.

Volume 15, disc 1
Under the control of Dirk, Judith shot and killed Rachel. Barnabas blames himself for Rachel's death. Edward follows Judith to Dirk's lair and stakes the vampire to death.
Aniqlique tries to talk Barnabas into allowing her to help him return to the 1960s, giving vague, warnings that something bad is coming for him if he stays. He declines her help and when Magda asks her to help Barnabas later she refuses, angry at being rejected by Barnabas again. She doen't understand that Barnabas can't leave until he's finished his mission.
Carl's dead girlfriend blames Barnabas for her death and visits Carl in a dream which leads to Carl's discovering that Barnabas is a vampire. Carl tells Quenton who then locks Carl in the tomb with Barnabas's coffin. Quenton realises that he needs Barnabas to be cured of being a werewolf. Carl figure out how to open the door and escapes but after Quenton tells Barnabas that he learned his secret from Carl, Barnabas strangles Carl to death. Barnabas was not fast enough, Carl had told Trask. Trask did not believe him until he found Carl's dead body.
Trask tells Edward that Barnabas is a vampire and although Edward told Trask to not let anyone outside the Collins' family learn about this, lawyer Handley was told, off camera.
After his coffin is found and rendered usless to him, by Trask and Edward, Barnabas is forced to find a new one. He needs dirt from his original grave so he sends Charity to get it. She's cought but is able to deceave Edward and her father into believing she is no longer under Barnabas' control and is able to get the dirt to him.
Magda has returned with a hand cut off of a man who was apparently a powerful sorcerer. The hand can do good or evil. Magda says it can draw the curse from Quenton but Barnabas doesn't trust its powers. As a test he wishes for it to cure Charity so she won't die from his last bite. The hand cures her but Handley witnesses it and learning from the now free Charity where Barnabas is hiding, he uses a cross to keep Barnabas at bay while he black-mails the vampire into promising to give him the hand at dusk the next day. Barnabas wishes for the hand to make Handley his slave, instead of Barnabas, his slave. The hand disfigures the lawyer and takes his mind.
Trask talks Judith into marrying him. Soon after, Judith seems to be haunted by Minerva Trask. We don't actually see a ghost.
As Quenton begins to transform, Magda places the hand over his heart. Will it removed the curse, make things worse somehow or do nothing? The next DVD will answer that question.
Interview with Quenton actor.
Sorry this isn't my best summary but working reguarly leaves me tired at night. Yawning as I type this. And although I don't go to work until 2pm tomorrow (my hours change day to day) I think I'll actually go to bed by 10 tonight (which is in a few minutes).

Stuart, thanks for these summaries, that's pretty much how I've had to relive the days of Dark Shadows since I don't have the time or resources to watch the DVDs. I have found something interesting that is a great help to me now. I don't know who did this, but someone at some point in time ripped the audio from the show (I'm guessing the first 200 and something episodes) and edited down to just the important stuff and then narrated action and plot details. www.mysteryshows.com/Dark-Shadows/index.phpI don't have much time to watch the show, but I have a ton of commute time stuck in traffic when I listen to OTR and audiobooks. So this will be a great resource for me (and maybe other folks in the same situation).

Also I forgot to mention, Big Finish, who sort of blazed the trail in Doctor Who audio drama has been doing a Dark Shadows series. I believe it takes place in present day, as in 36 years after the show ended and features the voices of most the original stars such as David Selby as Quentin Collins. darkshadowsreborn.com/

The widow of a British nobelman has come to Collinwood. Thanks to the evil count her husband lost all his wealth and committed sucicide. She intends to marry Edward, for his money. Edward, realsing that Trask is backrupting the family, plans to marry her for the money he thinks she has. The woman looks like Josete and in fact has moments when she acts like her. She tried to strangle Angilque to death because she recognised her. Then she tried to find Barnabas because she loves him.
Aristede returns and the count finally learns that Dr. Hoffman survived being shot. So the count puts poison in her drink. When it doesn't kill her he realises that's she's just an astral body. That as long as her physical body exists in the future her astral body in the past cannot be harmed.
The witch spoils Quenton's plan to run away with the woman brought to life by the painters special power, by threatening to use magic to kill her. Anqilque doesn't realise that she's just being used by the count, who warned her of Quenton's plans, to keep Quenton where the count can control him.
The witch and Dr. Hoffman have become friends and are working on some secret plot against the evil count. Clinton comes to think that Barnabas is alive and that the women are hiding him (so do I).
Having learned that in 1969 Barnabas has met Quenton, the evil count comes to the conclusion that Quenton still lives in 1969, he doesn't realise it was Quenton's ghost. So, beleiving that Quenton lives in the future (he thinks the painting that took the werewolf curse has made Quenton immortal) the count takes over Quenton's body, placing Quenton's mind in his own body. He believes that if Quenton's body lives in 1969 by taking possession of it he too will live in 1969.
No one believes the "crazy" count when he tries to tell them that he is Quenton.
The count, now in Quenton's body, force a stranger to attempt a trip in time. Even though he believes his new body will still live in 1969, the count still wants to travel through time. He wants to use Quenton's body to give his astral body physical form in 1969. All the woman sees in the vision is a laughing skeleton. Her pyhsical body transforms into a skeleton. So the count still does not know which symbol he needs to travel to 1969.
Assuming the visions of the future come to pass, its probably the count using Quenton's body who murders the woman Quention claims to love. But is it Quenton in the count's body when the masked figure cuts off the hand, or is the count back in his own body by then?
Interview with a staff member who didn't have anything interesting to say.

a good day to watch Dark Shadows!
sometimes we think everyone involved with a production we love will say interesting stuff, when that's usually not the case. so many times "it was just another job" to them.
great reviews, i agree. i can remember most of the stuff from when i watched it over 10 years ago.

Before swapping bodies, the count took away the artist's talent, now the man cannot even draw never mind paint.
After the body swapping Angelique postponed the wedding which makes the count suspicious of her. She's up to something. Getting drugs from the local druggist and sneaking over to the Rectory where Julia had been living.
Quenton, in the count's body, convinces Dr. Hoffman that he's actually Quentin but it does him little good as she vanishes, her time in the past is up. The widow appears looking for the Dr. Hoffman. Realsing that he can't convince her that he's Quentin he pretends to be the evil count and scares her into agreeing to get the painting of Quentin. In actually fact he can't do her any harm as the magic is now in the Quenton's body.
Lady Hampshire failed to get the painting. So Quentin in the count's body has to think of something else.
Judith returns home and tells Edward that during her four months in the sanitarium Gregory Trask never once visited her. Quentin, in the count's body realises that attempting to tell Judith the truth about himself won't work so he introduces himself to her as the count and in order to win her confidence pretends to have pyschic powers which allow him to tell her things about herself only she and her brother Quentin know.
Lady Hampshire finds a note in her room which tells her to "Know yourself. Be who you must be". The sound of a familar music box is heard and becoming Josette the lady goes looking for Barnabas but its the ghost of Jeremiah that she finds. The ghost which neither resembles nor sounds like Jeremiah (the original actor having left the series long ago) warns her that she must leave Collinwood or "he will kill you". Quentin, in the count's body, appears. He saw the ghost too. Lady Hampshire has no idea what she was doing outside, why she was wearing a white dress or who the ghost was.
Note: when Quentin, in the count's body is heard "thinking" its Quentin's voice that is heard. When the count, in Quentin's body thinks outloud its the count's voice that is heard. Otherwise when speaking the count has Quentin's voice and Quentin has the count's.
The count notices an envelope with the name of the Collin's family lawyer on it. He goes to see Handley. They're discussion is interupted by a a knock on the door. Quentin hides. Its Judith she wants back the paper she signed giving Gregory Trask power of attorney. Her attorney attempts to stall her by claiming the paper is in the bank and that he can't get it because he's leaving for Bangor and won't be back in time. She tells him to have the bank stay open by telling them that if she doesn't have the paper by six, she'll remove her money the next day and start her own bank.
Later, Judith is miffed when "Quentin" doesn't welcome her home. The count who never met Judith didn't know who she was! Another knock, on another door. Its the lawyer, who of course "Quentin" does not recognise, the count never having met him. Handley gives Judith a paper. Then he "reminds" Quentin about their meeting at 9.
Quentin is the first to arrive for the meeting. The lawyer claims he's usually the last and tells Quentin that the others want Quentin to perform the cerimony. Quentin sits in the appropriate chair. As the lawyer lights the black candles, the count comes up behind him and chloriforms his own body. The ceremony fails and the count still in Quentin's body sends the lawyer out to dig his own grave.
Trask returns to Collinwood and lies about having seen Judith. He claims that she's worse, did not recognise her own husband. Her brother pretends to belief him until Judith comes down the stairs. Trask seems to have convinced Judith that he did go to the sanitarium once a week but that the doctors did not let him see her, and that Edward forced his way in to see her.
Quentin, still in the count's body, tries to safe the lawyer. He fails and is made to leave the grave side. The count in Quentin's body tells the lawyer that he's going to burry him alive. Evan convinces the count that he needs him alive. The count assigns Evan to follow Angelique.
Charity wants to buy a painting. Tate doesn't want to sell one of his paintings of his dream girl so he sets what he thinks is a price she can't pay, $5,000. She hands him five $1,000 bills.
The witch leads the lawyer to a door in the forest floor. The count sends him back to check the place out once she's left. Some one comes up behind the lawyer and hits him over the head. Quentin worried about him finds him.
Charity sees Quentin for the first time since the body swap and some how knows that its not Quentin. She tells the witch. The witch goes to see the count to object to whatever he's doing to Quentin. Quentin in the count's body tells her the truth but Aristede went to warn the count in Quentin's body. When the count threatens the witch she claims he cannot harm her because she has the power to resist his hand. But when Aristede arrives carrying a flaming tourch, she can't concentrate her powers against the count's magic and the fire. When Quentin's hand touchs her, she screams and crumbles to the ground. She awakes to find herself in the cave with Barnabas' coffin. The count claims to have taken away her powers. He leaves her in the cave which he says will be resealed and guarded by Aristede.
Lady Hampshire tells Edward that she will leave Collinwood the day after tomorrow then she allows him to talk her into staying. She writes a letter to her mother to tell her the plan is goin well but when reading it back to herself she notices she wrote the date as October 20, 1797 instead of 1897. The count hears her say the date outloud and looks it up in the Collins family history. The lady finds a key and going to the old house opens the door to Josette's room. She pours two drinks and sits down to wait. Footsteps are heard.
"Quentin" enters the room and Lady Hamsphire comes to her senses and runs away in fear. Later she returns to Collinwood and announces that she has seen Barnabas. "Quentin" goes to the came where Aristede has a gun pointed at the powerless witch. She had tried to break the chains to open the coffin and pull the stake from Barnabas. The count plans to destroy Barnabas body so he can't be revived. He causes magical fire to appear to keep Angileque at bay.
The count returns to Collinwood where he gives Barnabas' ring to Edward, as proof that Barnabas is still dead and in his coffin. Lady Hampshire takes the ring and runs off.
Aristede takes the witch out of the fire, which did not harm him proving it was an illusion. She hits him over the head with a rock. When he awakes its to see what appears to be Barnabas looking down at him and saying "Help me! Help me!".
Interview with "Quentin".

I like these reviews because they encapsulate a lot without getting tedious. If you can read fast or just need a massive database of Dark Shadows story to reference, I found a detailed synopsis for what looks like all the episodes. home.comcast.net/~nicholasm79/darkshadows/index.html That's an incredible amount of work, but I'd never be able to read through it. Which is why I prefer the Zone Fighter (tm) method.

Dark Shadows volume 17 disc 2:
The Count's assistant runs away. The man who looks like Barnabas finds his way to a doctor and before collapsing asks for Edward Collins. Quentin wants to shoot the man with silver bullets but Edward decides to let the sunlight solve the problem of the vampire. The sun rises but the man does not die. He claims to be from England, and after spending some time in Boston he came to Collinsport to meet Edward but was taken prisoner by the vampire. Edward insists on taking the man to Barnabas' coffin, Edward and "Quenton" are shocked to find Barnabas' body still in the coffin. The second Barnabas faints.
Charity places the painting of Amanda where Gregory Trask is sure to see it. Trask accuses Quenton of bringing it. Charity it turns out was acting on Judith's orders.
"Quenton" sets the coffin on fire. Trask threatnes the second Barnabas with a cross, he gets no reaction. Trask goes to question the artist about who bought the painting.
"Quenton" has Charity look at the second Barnabas. She tells him he's not the vampire.
Edward and Kitty Hampshire become engaged. Barnabas is well enough to join the family at dinner. Barnabas is visibly shaken by the announcement. Kitty taken over by Josette's spirit goes to Barnabas but Barnabas senses a prescence in the room. Josette says its Jeremiah. Josette reverts to Kitty and Kitty leaves the room frightened and confused.
Angelique takes Barnabas to meet Quenton, in the count's body. Through a flash back it is revealed that Anqelique had made a duplicate Barnabas and it was this duplicate which was killed. Dr. Hoffman and the witch used drugs to "cure" Barnabas of being a vampire.
Charles Tate goes to the count to beg for his talent back. The count tries to tell him that he's really Quenton but Charles doesn't believe him and threatnes to shot him. "Quenton" appears and sending the count's still breathing body out of the room forces Charles to take a brief trip through time. Charles sees Julia reading a newspaper dates Octoboer 28, 1969. The Count believes he now knows the way to the future.
"Quenton" convinces Beth that he's going to take her with him to the future, to escape the evil count. She's to bury a suitcase containng money, diamonds and the painting of Quenton. Charles accidently reveals to Charity that Quenton plans to go to the future and she tells Barnabas. Barnabas has Charity destrict "Quenton" while he searches Quenton's room.
Quenton makes it to the future but Beth breaks the trance brining him back to 1897. The painting is missing from the suitcase. Beth drags Charity to see "Quenton". But Charity tells him nothing. Charity has a nightmare in which she dances with Quenton, who seems to love her, but then Quenton is replaced by the Count.
The Count confronts Barnabas who admits knowing he's the count. When Barnabas won't tell him where the painting is, denies having it, the count threatens to turn him back into a vampire, but when he touches Barnabas nothing happens.
Lady Hampshire went to the Count to learn the truth about herself. Quenton in the count's body decides to humor her but when he touches her she actually does learn that's she's both Kitty and Josette.
The Count, in Quenton's body thinks the hand didn't work because Barnabas is a super natural creature already but when he tries to exercicse the spirit of Panse from Charity he fails. Charity tells Beth that this man is really the Count. Beth doesn't want to believe it but Charity sends her to the mill where the count hides out and she finds Quenton there and when she tells him the gypsies are on the way she sees him squirm.
At the Old House, the voice of Josette asks Kitty to let her live through her. When Barnabas shows up she switches back and forth between being Kitty and Josette.
Beth goes to Tim Shaw and tells him about the body switching. Sensing that he doesn't believe her she asks him to go get the count so he can tell him that he's really Quenton.
Quenton still in the count's body goes to the mill hoping to find a clue as to how to reverse the tranference. Barnabas shows up and helps him look. Not finding anything Barnabas surmises that the count just willed the transfer to happen. He has Quenton sit in the counts chair and conctrate on willing himself back into his own body. Barnabas promises to leave as soon as the count's body shows any movement, in case the transfer works.
Tim returns to his room, with "Quenton". Tim thinks Beth is ill and "Quenton" promises to "take good care of her". "Quenton" fills faint. Beth escapes. "Quenton" chases af her.
Barnabas sees the count stirs and to be safe Barnabas flees.
Quenton colapses in the forest. When he recovers, he really is Quenton Collins again. He finds Beth but of course doesn't know what she's doping in the woods. Believing him to be the count she tries to get away and falls off a cliff, apparently to her death.
At Collinwood, Barnabas worries that Quenton hasn't show up. Quenton shows up. "You aren't sure which one I am are you?" Barnabas pretends not to know what Quenton is talking about. Quenton tells him he's himself again then he tells him about Beth. Barnabas wants him to leave, to get as far away froun the Count as possible but Quenton won't leave without the portrait. Barnabas thinks Charles Tate may have it.
Tate does have it and not knowing that the men are back in their own bodies, he thinks he can blackmail the Count with it. Aristede appears at Charles door. He hasn't slept or ate for days afraid of the vampire's revenge. Tate tells him the Barnabas he is afraid of is not a vampire. Then kicks him out.
Just as Charles finihses covering Quenton's potrait in white paint, Barnabas knocks on the door. He claims Quenton sent him to buy back the painting. Charles denies having it but says Barnabas can look for it and if he finds he take it with him.
Aristede finds Quenton and not knowing that it is Quenton begs to be taken back. Quenton playing along tells Aristede that he's changed his mind about his old body. He now wants the gypsies to find it dead.
The Count shows up at Charles studio but Charles thinks he's Quenton, until the count give him back his talent. As Charles is in other room getrting some brandy, the count turns his back on the outside door. Aristede comes in and stabs the count who falls to the ground.
Tate tells Aristede that he just stabbed the real count. Realising that he was tricked by Quenton, Aristede leaves to get revenge. The count isn't dead however and tells Charles to stop Aristede, Quinton must not die.
Quenton lets Aristede into Collinwood. Aristede grabs a sword off the wall and would kill Quenton with it if Charles, armed with a pistol, had not arrived to stop him.
The count has a dream about how he first met Aristede. Aristede was a murderer who escaped from prison after killing the warden. Aristede is haunted by the memory of Garth Blackwood, a man with a wooden leg who enjoyed beating prisoners with a chain, and thinks the dead man is hunting him. The Count frees him of that delusion. When the count awakens he has a plan to punish Aristede. The count has Tate draw a picture.
Aristede shows up wanting the Count to forgive him. After the count shows Aristede the picture and tells him that Tate's pictures come to life the sound of a wooden leg being drawn across the ground and rattling chains are heard from outside the artist's home.
Interview is with technical director. Didn't learn anything new from him.

Dark Shadows volume 17 disc 3
This disc seems to end the 1897 story line, intrduces the first of several alternate time lines and also begins the Leviathan plot, considered by many fans, including Dan Curtis, to be the weakest of the story lines.
Arestide flees just before his nemesis appears.
Judith had told Evan to hire someone to find out where her husband and been when he was supposed to be visiting her at the sanitariun. The lawyer said he gave to job to Timothy Shaw rather than a private detective because Tim hates Gregory Trask.
Judith tells her husband that she plans to change her will, to leaver all her money to charity. She asks surprised when he's not pleased.
Trask goes to his partner in murder, but the lawyer wants to be on the winning side and having concluded that the new Judith Collins is more than a match for Trask declines to help him. Arestide shows up wanting Evan to his knowledge of the supernatural to safe him from the ghost but the lawyer doesn't want to make an enemy of the Count so he declines. He does give the lawyer and the false reverand 15 minutes alone to discuse how Trask can help Arestide instead. Trask agrees to exercise the "demon" if Arestide will first commit a murder for him. The details of the plan are discussed off camera, not even the victims name is mentioned.
Trask goes back to Collinwood to appologise to Judith. Still at the lawyer's home, Arestide hears chains rattling and runs away. When the lawyer tries to through out the intruder he's attacked. Arestide returns just along enough to see the lawyer on the ground. Arestide flees to Collinwood. Judith over hears Arestide telling Trask that the lawyer has been murdered.
Judith meets with Tim. She tells him that Handley is dead. He tells her that her husband had been seeing widow who knew the first Mrs. Trask was dead but not that he had remarried. When she learned the truth she comitted suicide. Judith discuss her plan to get Gregory with Tim, off camera of course.
Edward and Quenton are conviently out of town. I don't know abut the children. Trask plants Arestide in Judith's room. Arestide is supposed to kill her and take her jewlery to make it look like a robbery. Trask claims a carriage will be waiting for Arestide to take him to Portland and that the ghost of Blackwood will be exoricsed. Judith sends her husband to the study to finish his reading why she's supposed to write letters to her Boston lawyers. Judith then plants Tim in Quenton's room with instructions to wait 15 minutes then come to her room. Blackwood looks in through the drawing room window. Judith goes to her room. Arestide shows himself, announcing that he's her to kill her, but at that moment Blackwood bursts into the room. Arestide jumps out the window. Trask appears just in time to see Blackwood leave. Judith fills faint and asks for a Brandy then she suggest that Gregory have one too. He downs his but she doesn't drink hers. He colapses just before Timothy walks into the room. This time Judith really does fill faint but won't let herself be weak.
Gregory Trask wakes up in Quenton's room. Timothy Shaw is there to say goodbye, and holding a gun on Trask leaves, locking the door behind him. As the sound of scraping is heard coming from outside the room, Trask searches for a key. He finds one but upon unlocking the door is horrified to find a brick wall with only two brinks left to put in place. Judith says goodbye to her husband as Timothy puts in the last two bricks.
Judith phones the police to report the prowlers, she says that her husband went after them and hasnt been seen since. When Quenton returns Judith informs him that she has closed off the west wing. Quenton goes looking for Trask. In the cemetary he finds Arestide. When Arestide hears chains rattling he runs. Blackwood nearly kills Quenton, he lets him go when Quenton says that he tried to hold Arestide for him.
Trask finds Quenton's phone but it wont make outgoing calls and the only incoming calls of from Judith who asks who is mediating is going. Trask sees the ghost of Beth who is looking for Quenton. He asks the ghost to tell Quenton where he is.
Quenton returns home and meets Beth. She lets him know that she forgives him for her death, but Quenton cannot forgive himself.
Arestide flees to the abandoned mill, the Count's old home (the count is currently residing with the artist). He's attack by a woman, he disarms her. The woman is King Johnny's widow she's came to carry out her husbands curse on the Count. Arestide tries to get the gyspsy's help by promsing to betray the Count. He gives her a map to Charles Tates and tells her to cut through the cemetary. She runs into Blackwood who knows she's aided Arestide and sentances her to death for the crime of aiding a criminal. He strangles her with the chain.
Blackwood bursts in on Arestide at the mill. Arestide tries to save himself by telling Blackwood that those who brought him back will destroy him once he is no longer of use to them. He kills Arestide anyway.
Charles Tate tell the Count that he found the body of a gypsy woman. The count plans to regain Quenton's body and travel to the future. Blackwood shows up and starts to strangle Charles but the Count's magic hand stops him. The Count senses that his power over Blackwood is temporary and instructs Charles to get his gun. Charles shoots Blackwood but on like the last man the artists created did not disinegrate (perhaps because Blackwood was once a real person not just a figment of the Charles' imagination). Charles ties up the wounded man. The Count plans to leave Charles to watch Blackwood die while he escapes from the gypsies. Blackwood breaks free. He announces that he can't kill Chalres and the Count now but the sentence of death will eventually be carried out. He drags himself out of the house.
Quenton is exhausted, not having slept well for several nights. He's planning to leave town. Charity (or Pansy) seems him and at first thinks its the Count,, but then she realizes he's really Quention again. Quenton gives Charity a photo of himself when he was 10 years old. The Count begins his trance. When Quenton falls asleep his mind won't be able to defend itself and the Count will switch bodies again.
Up in her room Charity has a vision of the near future, she sees Quention taken over by the Count and the Count determined to travel to the future immediatly. She warns Quenton. He's exhausted (and his driniking brandy wouldn't help). Barnabas arrives, learns whats happening and goes looking someone he thinks can help. He goes to Anqelique but the witch refuses to help. Typical of her, she rather see Quenton destroyed then save him and watch him to to New York in search of another woman (Amanda Harris). This despite the fact that she condemes herself in the proccess. Her master (the devil) allowed her to return to life as a human only on the condition that she make a man fall in love with her, without the use of supernatural powers.
Still hoping Barnabas takes Anqelique to see Quenton. She asks Quenton to take her with him to NY. He refuses but she decides to help him anway, then make him pay her price later. She uses her magic to determine that Petoif is no longer at the mill but at Charles Tates. However she can't reach his mind to deflect it from Quenton. She could force him out of the trance if she could attack him but she needs something of his to do so. Charity eves dropping hears her tell Barnabas this. Chartiy plans to get the Count's necktie. She fails, but she does break his concentration. Petofi sends Charles to tell Quention that unless he surrenders himself in 30 minutes Charity Trask will die.
Charles doesn't find Quention, only Barnabas. Barnabas goes to try to free Charity. Petofi decides that since Quention has escaped him he'll take over Barnabas' body to travel to the future (he doesn't know that Barnabas' body vanished from 1969). He uses his hand to put Barnabas to sleep. Then puts himself in a trance. It looks bad for Barnabas but then Blackwood bursts in. Charles runs away. Blackwood chains the Count's hands then slaps him out of the trance. Barnabas awakes. Blackwood sends Barnabas and Charity away. Then he pours a flameble liquid (paint thinner?) all over the room. The sentence for Petofi is death by fire.
Back at Collinwood, Charity has a vision of the artist's studio burning. She sees Blackwood and Petofi fighting in the burning building. She also sees the painting of Quenton burning.
Later, Barnabas finds Petofi's watch and Blackwood's chain in the burnt out wreck but no bodies. He also finds the count's glasses outside the building. A hand touches him on the shoulder. Its Charles. He agrees to paint a new portrait of Quenton.
Judith writes Timothy that her plan will probably be completed soon. She wants him to come tomorrow to take down the brick wall and cover the room with a plaster wall. Decades years later two children will find the secret room with a skeleton in the chair.
Gregory Trask is down to his last candel. Judith phones him. He tells her she cannot commit a murder. She says she's not even going to go near him. He left a surprise for him. Its the painting of Amanda Harris. He smashes the frame and stamps on the painting.
In New York, Quenton finds Amanda (either she didn't really come to life when Charles painted her, or there does not have to be a painting in existance for her to continue existing, or there's another one somewhere.) Anyhow, she's happy to see him until he tells her that he can't stay with her because he doesn't have his portrait and without it he could become a monster that would kill her.
Lady Hampshire aka Kitty Soms decides to leave Collinwood. She gives Edward's engagement ring to Judith. Then Kitty hears the musicbox. She goes to the Old House to talk to Josette's potrait. She tells it that she has to leave, to forget Jossette Dupree. The voice of Josette replies "Kitty Soms, it is Kitty Soms you must forget". Then Barnabas walks in and asks her to marry him. Strangely, she agrees. He leaves to make the arrangements.
An unhinged Trask calls on Minerva to come to him because "I can't come to you, I don't know how". The phone rings. He thinks its Minerva of course its Judith she tells him there is a gift for him in the drawer. He opens the drawer and finds a gun.
After telling Judith that he and Kitty are to be married, Barnabas goes to the burnt out studio to get the painting but all he finds is a goodbye letter from Charles Tate.
Judith phones her husband but gets now reply. The camera shows his unmoving body.
In the woods Barnabas hears Kitty's voice or is it Josette's calling him. He hurries to the Old House. He arrives just in time to see Kitty wearing Josette's white dress, fading into the portrait. When he reaches for her hand they both vanish.
Barnabas wakes in the woods to find Ben Stokes looking for him. He's back in the 1796, on the night Josette died. Barnabas is determined to change history. He wants stokes to check that Josette (whom Barnabas assumes Kitty turned into) is in her room then go to the fishing shack where he will find the witch and to bring her to Joestte's room in the Old House.
Josette wakes from a dream of being in another time.
Barnabas begs the witch to leave Josette alone. He promises not to try to turn her into a vampire and leave with her. But his gratititude is not enough to make her leave Josette alone. So Barnabas decides to go to Widow's Hill to save Josette. The witch lures Josette to Widow's Hill and shows her the vision of herself as a vampire (again). The sound of footsteps are heard. Jossette back towards the cliff's edge.
The Countess arrives at Widow's Hill and saves Josette! Leaving her niece with Millicent, the Natalie goes to tell the one he sent her to Widow's Hill that Josette is saved.
The Countess thinks Barnabas is a ghost and should go back to his grave since he saved Josette. Barnabas wants to see Jossette but Natalie won't let him. So he bites her. She returns to Millicent's room and sents Jostette to her room.
Barnabas tells Josette that if she will go to the Old House at Midnight he will show her away to the future, where he is no longer under the curse and where they can be happily married. He goes to find Ben Stokes so he can keep guard.
The path that should have taken him to the fishing shack instead takes him to a strange place where he meets a man and a woman who don't speak. When the man grabs him, Barnabas tries to disappear but cannot.
Five to midnight, Jossette waits for Barnabas at the Old House, by her potrait. Natalie and Millicent find her farewell note. Millicent goes to look for her but Natalie lacks the will.
Tweleve thirty -- still no Barnabas. Fearing that Barnabas has lied to her, that he wants to make her a creature of the night after all, Josette drinks poison.
The two people, Oberon and Haxa, speak. They've put Barnabas in some kind of trance. They say that wheen he awakes he will know them and will "shows us the way to a new and ever lasting life". They spout some poetic nonsense. Barnabas awakens spouts nonsese. And seems to know them. They give him the Levithan Box. According to the opening narration the last episode on the disc, Baranbas will never know that Josette killed herself.
Back in 1969, a month after Julia returned Barnabas has not returned. Someone is watching her from outside the window.
Julia returns to Collinwood. Carolyn has bought a ring at a new antique store and wants Julia to check it out. Julia hears the voices of Magda and Charity talking about how Barnabs and Lady Hampshire entered the Old House and vanished without a trace. For some reason, Julia takes this to mean that Barnabas is dead. Whats funny about all this is Julia and Magda are same person and Charity and Carolyn are same person.
The Leviathan stone suddenly appears in the woods. Some man whos face we don't see witnesses this before entering the Old House.
Julia suddenly decides that Barnabas disappearing from 1800s doesn't mean he's dead but could mean that he's on the way back to 1969. Outside the Old House she meets the stranger.
Interview is with a Video Producer/Publicist. The most interesting he said was about Quenton. According to him the character of Quenton Collins was created after Jonathan Frid (Barnabas) asked if another male lead could be brought in to take some of the pressure off him. The publicist also talked how the directors would order a closeup of a character talking or the scene out a window or even a table lamp to cover up the fact that the other person the actor was talking to had actually left, in a hurry to get to another set for another scene.
So it appears that Barnabas' mission to the past was only half a success, he saved David from Quenton's ghost but failed to lift the werewolf course which affects Quenton's male decendents.
Doesn't make sense to me that Josette's ghost would sent Barnabas back to 1796 just to change the way she died. Taking her own life intentionally is better than accidently falling off a cliff? And what happened to poor innocent Kitty?
Why did the visions of the future show Arestede being strangled by a masked figure and Count Petofi losing his hand to the same masked figure rather than Blackwood killing them both?

Dark Shadows volume 17 disc 4:
The stranger (played by the same actor who played the conartist/blackmailer in the preBarnbas and early Barnabas episodes) runs away when Julia is distracted by Carolyn. The women spend the night in the Old House. Carolyn dreams that she was going to marry Chris Jennings but he disapppeared. She thinks the dream is a result of receiving a phone call from him.
Later, Julia and Carolyn go antiquing. The shop is owned by Philip and Megan Todd (the later formerly Eve and then Quention's insane wife). Julia is instantly intriqued when he says that a paiting he just bought at auction is a geninue Charles Delawre Tate and that it was painted no more than twenty years ago (when he would be in his 80s). She decides to buy it, even at their price of $300.00. Carolyn is confused by Julia's sudden interest in art. Julia wants to find out if Tate could still be alive, at 100 years of age.
Carolyon finds the Leviathan altar on Collins property and cannot understand how it got there. She also has a brief encounter with the stranger.
Megan suddenly wants to sell the shop she and her husband just bought and leave town, she has a premonition that tragedy awaits them if they stay. Her good sense will soon disert her.
The Leviathan altar opens, Barnabas appears, repeating some bad poetry. At Collinwood, Julia hears the sound of a heartbeat and after chastings Chris Jennings for leaving the sanitarium, rushes out of the house.
Professor Stokes has been hired to help Sabrina Stewart regain her power of speech. She tells him that she must talk to Carolyn Stoddard. When Carolyn arrives, Sabrina insists on speaking to her alone. After the Stokes leaves, Sabrina warns Carolyn that even though he loves her, Chris will attempt to kill her and makes her promise not to tell the professor.
Julia finds Barnabas in the Old House. He lies to her about how he returned from the past and warns her to not touch the strange box he has. When Chris shows up Barnabas claims he found no solution for Chris' problem in the past. Julia sends Chris away. She plans to check out the box. When she picks up the box she hears the sound of heavy breathing come it from it. Barnabas stops her from opening. Carolyn shows up looking for Julia. She's pleased to see that Barnabas is back. And he's as concerned for her safety as he was unconcerned about helping Chris. Later he gives Carolyn a pentagram and asks her to wear it always but fails to give her a chain to wear it on. She goes to the antique shop to buy a silver chain. At the shop, Julia has learned that a man from New York has sent a telegram about the Tate painting.
Back at the Old House, Julia tries to tell Barnabas that the man from New York could be Quenton still alive in this century. He doesn't care. She leaves. He has a vision in which Oberon tells him that a sudden knocking on the door as he awakens from a dream will indicate the comming of the "choosen ones". They will be two strangers, one of whom is wearing the sign of the Naga. As soon as he awakes there is a knocking at the door. It's Philip and Megan, whom Barnabas Collins has never met before. Megan is wearing the sign of the naga (acccording to Barnabas a creature without a soul) arround her neck . Megan becomes facisnated with the box, which has the sign of the naga ontop of it. Elizabeth shows up to invite Barnabas to a dinner party tomorrow. Barnabas suggest that she not let Carolyn see Chris Jennnings anymore. As Elizabeth leaves the stranger, hanging around outside, hides so she can't see him.
The stranger phones Collinwood and asks for Mrs. Stoddard but upon hearing her voice, hangs up. To keep up the mystery around this man he's not listed in the credits yet. I believe I know who he is though. And its weird given who his previous character in the series was.
Maggie returns to the house she and her late father used to live it, to make sure its ready for new tennants. The stranger comes to the door, looking for Sam Evans, he did not know he was dead. He asks her about Carolyn. She describes her as kind and gentle and good. And he replies "your You are not describing a true Collins". He's looking for a friend and asks if he can trust her as he would have her father. The audience does not hear what else the stranger may have told Maggie. Maggie returns to Colinwood looking for Carolyn.
Barnabas suprises the Todd's by showing up at their shop and giving them his mysterious box and an envelope supposedly containing a list of items in the Old House which he would consider selling. They try to open the box but cannot, until Philip finds the key in the envelope. Now its Philip who senses danger and does not want to open the box, but Magen has already fallen under the box's spell and talks him into opening it. Upon opening the box there is a strange noise as if something flew out of the box, nothing was seen coming out however. In addition to whatever invisible thing flew out of it, the box contained a book written in a lanquage the couple did not recognise and a scroll containg bad poetry written in English, someothing about bringing something dead back to life.
Magen has a dream in which Barnabas instructs her to keep unbelievers out of her bedroom which must be kept dark. She calls him "master". He tells her that she will not know him in the real world but will obey without question the instructions he gives in dreams. When she awakens Philip is missing from the bedroom. He returns shortley with planks to close up the widows because the room must be kept in darkness. He does not know why or who told him to do it only that he must obey without question.
Carolyn shows up at the antique shop, she volunteered to help them out with it. She finds the empty box and wonders what it is and who would buy it. She takes a phone call from a woman who wants to buy an old wooden cradle that Todds kept reducing in price to get rid of, but suddenly Megan says it is not for sale and Philip takes it away. [Dark Shadows borrowing from Rosemary's Baby? Maybe the Victory Winters actress was wise to leave the show when she became pregant.]
Maggie had invited Carolyn to go shopping for clothes after helping out at the antique shop but a perplexed Carolyn is no longer interested so Maggie invites her to the Blue Whale for a drink, claiming it will change her entire outlook.
Back in the darkened bedroom the Todds recite: "In darkness it will come. In Darkness it will grow. And darkness it will bring." The empty cradle rocks itself. Returning to the lower floor, Megan kicks Carolyn and Maggie out of the shop even though its not closing time. She and Philip close up, pulling widow shades down.
At the Blue Whale, Carolyn is too upset over the change in the Todds to notice the stupid grin on Maggie's face (it made me want to slapp Maggie). When the stranger comes in Maggie greets him then leaves, much to Carolyn's surprise. The man introduces himsel to Carolyn, "I am Paul Stoddard, your father." Paul Stoddard denies having anything to do with Jason's blackmailing of Elizabeth, keeping her afraid to leave her house for 20 years. He claims Jason told him that Elizabeth paid him to finish him off, but he paid Jason not to and fled. Now he says he wasted 20 years too. He claims he's made money of his own over the years and realising that money isn't really important he just wants to have his daughter in his life.
The Todd says "it's time" and head upstairs to the bedroom. They look at the cradle and talk about "him" though the camera is angled so the audience can't see whats in the cradle and there is no sound coming from it. The Todds talk about how he hasn't made a sound since he arrived and yet they somehow know what he wants them to do. Philip wants to stay with "him" because he sense that he is lonely but Megan says that Philip must go get the furniture Mr. Collins has promised them and to do something else, what that something else is is not stated.
Outside Collinwood, Mr. Stoddard claims it took all his courage to meet Carolyn, he has none left to encounter Elizabeth. He wants Carolyn to sound Elizabeth out witout mentioning actualling having met him. The door opens. After the man leavesa and Carolyn enters the house she finds that David has been evesdropping, but not having been at the Blue Whale, what he heards brings him to the assumption that Carolyn now has a boyfriend she doesn't want anyone to know about. She promises not to tell Elizabeth that David was spying on her if he agrees not to tell anyoneone about the man. David does not actually say he agrees he just smirks at her. [Suddenly everybody has grins that would make me immediatly suspect them of being up to no good but which Carolyn is completly blind too.]
Later, Philip shows up at Collinwood. Carolyn asks if a man who cannot come to the house can leave messages for her at the shop, he not only agrees to that but surprises her by asking her to work at the shop on a regular basis. [Again she fails to notice that odd smile. Apparently Carolyn has replaced Victoria as the unspecting one who completly fails to realise that she's surrouned by evil.]
The next day, Carolyn finds Megan holding a baby [which the camera never gives a clear shot of]. Megan claims her sister left the baby in their care while going on vacation to Canada. When Carolyn asks the boy's name Megan looks perplexed as if she has no idea [of course Carolyn does not notice] then suddenly says his name is "Joseph". [Apparently he telepathically communicated the name to her]. Carolyn notes how quiet he is. Megan takes Joseph upstairs. David and Amy stop by to visit Carolyn. She warns them that if they break anything David's father will get the bill. When Mr. Stoddard arrives Carolyn addreses him as Mr. Prescott and takes him to the back room to see the "plates and knives" he wanted. David and Amy leave, returning to Mrs. Johnson who is watching them for the day. Learning that Carolyn has not spoken to her mother (headache last night and did not come to breakfast) Mr. Stoddard leaves the shop.
Later, the Todd's discover the book is missing. David had taken it. He tells Amy that he tore a page and did not want his father to be angry at him. Amy tells David to return the book. The Todds agree with each other that whoever took "his book" must die. The baby has a fever.
Megan phones Carolyn frantic about the missing book, when Carolyn tells her to calm down, Megan tells her it just isn't the book, the baby isn't well. Carolyn hangs up so Megan can call a doctor [which she won't].
Carolyn asks David about the book. He denies having taken it but behaives so supisciously she thinks that's he's lying. Barnabas walks in. David tries to "hide" something. It's Amy's missing puzzle. David had the book it the box earlier, but when Barnabas opens it there is nothing in the box but a few puzzle pieces. David pretends he was acting strangely because he took Amy's puzzle. When Barnabas realises the book is missing from the antique store he asks who was in the shop that day. When Carolyn fails to mention "Mr. Prescott", David does.
Barnabas goes to the antique shop and tells Philip he has decided to sell him the Hitchock chair. Philip says that any other time he would go with Barnabas before he changes his mind but he can't leave the sick baby. Then Barnabas tells the Todd's that for them their is no time except the "time of the Leviathan people, which is now". When he says that Philip wants to go with him and Megan readily agrees that he should go get the chair.
When Elizabeth questions David about the book, he blames Carolyn's new, older boyfriend.
After giving Philip the chair, Barnabas takes him to see the Leviathan altar. Barnabas claims that only the Leviathan people can see it, which is not good news for Carolyn. Philip must be punished but he won't know what the punishment is until it happens.
The next day, Megan leaves the sick baby with Carolyn and goes to the Old House looking for Philip. Barnabas claims Philip only stayed with him for 15 minutes. She leaves. In fact Philip stayed with Barnabas all night at is currently in the Old House, waiting for his punishment.
Megan rushes back to the shop, where she tells Carolyn that she must hide because someone is coming to kill her. Megan runs out of the room. Carolyn shouts after her that no one is coming. The shop door opens. It's Julia. She recognises Barnabs' box. When she tries to examine the sick baby, Megan comes and takes him away.
David plans to burn the book, so no one but Amy will know he took it. Amy tries to stop him. In the struggle the book falls open. David stares at the pages. Suddenly he does not want to burn it anymore. He sends Amy out of the room and proceed to read a page of the book outloud. Something about the raising of the people of Leviathan.
Julia is expecting a vistor from New York, about the Tate painting. She thinks the man will turn out to be Quenton and wants David to take a note to Barnabas but David refuses so Julia sets out to see Barnabas herself. [This evil scheme would go a lot smoother if the Leviathan People knew each other. Really David should have gone straight to Barnabas. And shouldn't be lying to Carolyn since she's one too, though she doesn't know it.]
The man from New York turns out to be a woman, who looks strangly like Amanda Harris. Julia recognises her and when the woman says she wants the Tate painting, Julia says she doesn't think she really does since its not a potrait of the woman she looks like. Miss Corey claims to be the granddaughter of Amanda Harris and a man named Langley. When she shows interest in portraits of the Collins family Julia tries to bate her by saying "I'm afraid you'll be disappinted, Miss 'Corey", there are no potraits of Quenton Collins". Miss Corey claims not to be familar with that name.
David goes to the Leviathan altar. When he says "I am one of you now" it opens. He climbs into the opening. It closes behind him. Inside, David picks up some leaves and recites bad poetry. When he gets to "flesh and bones" the words repeat themselves and he faints.
Carolyn goes to see Chris. He browbeats her into telling him that Sabrina said he would try to kill her. He tells her she should have believed Sabrina and that she should get out of his life. When she's gone he reaches for a pistol.
Carolyn goes to see Barnabas and hears his voice saying "There is no margine for error. Punishment is neccesary" twice. It sounds like he's in the room but he isn't. Then he suddenly appears from the direction of the steps as if he just walked down them. Carolyn is of course confused. She wants to know what Barnabas knows about Chris that he's not telling her, he lies, says there is nothing. He tells her that she will soon know a greater love than she ever has. After she's gone, he opens the bookcase door and rewinds a reel-to-reel tape player of him saying "there is no margine for error. Punishment is neccesary" and sends Philip out.
Chris writes out a sucicide note and is about to shoot himself (presumably with a silver bullet) when the ghost of Quenton's wife appears and tells him that he must not die while there is yet hope and to seek out Quenton Collins. [Don't notice that she looks like Megan Todd with a bad hair day and sounds just like her.] Then she vanishes.
Megan starts to phone the police when Philip show up. She hangs up the phone. He blames her for the disppearance of the book. He leaves, claiming has to go to the drugstore to get cigarettes. Every noice frightens Megan. When she phones the apothocary she's told that Philip has not been there. Philip returns and repeating "There is no margine for error. Punishment is neccesary" attempts to strangle Megan, for losing the book. David appears holding the baby and says "punishment is no longer neccesary". He has medicine for the baby. He tells Philip and Megan that he is the Keeper of the Book and the baby's protector. And they are to tell no one. "Mr Prescott" appears with a message for Carolyn. David agrees to take it to her.
Paul Stoddard goes to the Leviathan Altar but does not know why he's drawn to it.
Chris goes to see Julia. Looking through a Collins family photo album they learn it was Jenni Collins who appeared to him. Julia tells him she was his great grandmother, and wife of Quenton. She also tells him the curse started with Quenton and was to go on to the eldest son in each generation [this is a change in Magda's original wording of the course, which was to affect ALL the male decendents not just the eldest sons. Change made to explain why Chris' twin brother Tom was not a werewolf and therefore could become a vampire?] David enters the room looking for Caroly. Julia asks his help in an attempt to contact the spirit of Quenton Collins.
At his hotel Paul Stoddard wonders why Carolyn has not phone him. He circules the date Tuesday, December 4, 1969 on the hotel calender, without knowing why he did it. He goes back to the antique shop. The Todd's have not heard from Carolyn but someone did leave an envelope for him [its yellow, all Collinsport messages are apparently sent in yellow envelopes]. He opens it. The message reads "PAYMENT DUE 4 DECEMBER 1969" [so the sender is British?]
Speaking through David, Jameson Collins says that the spirit of Quenton Collins is gone, cannot hear them, there can be no communications from it. David faints again. Julie condludes that Quenton's spirit cannot hear them because Quenton is not dead.
Back at his hotel room, Paul Stoddard is horrified to find that the symbol of the Leviathan, a 4 head-serpent [in the Old Testament Leviathan is not mentioned as having more than 1 head] has mysteriously appeared tattooed on his left wrist (in greend).
End of episode, end of week, end of DVD, end of volume 17.
Interview with an assistant producer who talks about his relationship with Dan Curtis and the Dark Shadow actors. He did not talk the witch or the ghost/werewolf. He also mentioned that after the Dark Shadow movie the series ratings dropped. He thinks its becomes parents didn't watch the TV series with their children but did go to the movie and afterwards wouldn't let their children watch the TV series. After the second film, the series ratings dipped again. And ultimately Dark Shadows was canceled.

Haha, that's a very interesting theory about the parents not letting the kids watch the tv show after seeing the movie.
I believe the more common theory of the stories and plots were just getting out of control by that era. Though I have a soft spot for the Leviathans storyline since it's supposedly "Lovecraftian".
If you've ever seen the last 5 minutes of the final episode I think it sort of encompasses the whole problem with the show at that point. It was literally eating itself story-wise. That last episode was just about to start a new storyline about a.... Vampire at Collinwood.

I've seen a clip of the final scene. I still have a long way to go before that final episode (after which I'll go back to the start with Dark Shadow Beginnings volume 1).

Dark Shadows volume 18, disc 1:
The Leviathan symbol won't wash off. When Carolyn goes to the hotel to meet with her father, her mother follows. Carolyn won't leave the room for Elizabeth but does for Paul. Elizabeth tells Paul to get out of town.
At a bar, Paul Stoddard learns from a sailor, who has been to "the east", that the green tattoo is a creature without a soul which has to find one so it can be real. Back at his hotel room, Paul drawsa a pentagram on the floor and putting his chair in the middle of it sits down. "I'm safe here". But a mysterious voice insists that he will be theirs tonight. Some one is at the door. Paul screams. It's only Carolyn. Noticing the pentragram on the floor, she gives her father her necklace. She doesn't actually believe some unknown force is after him, she thinks he's ill and goes after Dr. Hoffman. She finds Julia with Barnabas (who still doesn't care that Quenton may be alive in this century).
Paul receives a phone call from the mysterious voice reminding him that payment is due tonight. Although he does not hang up the phone, it never the less rings again. Terrified he runs out of his room. He runs to Collinwood looking for Carolyn, who went to his room and found it empty. Paul meets Julia, who was just getting her medical bag. He doesn't want her help he starts to say that he has all the help he needs, but then discovers that the chain around his neck is empty, the pentagram has vanished. The phone rings. Julia answers it then hands it to him. He thinks its Carolyn but is the mysterious voice, demanding payment again. He hangs up. The phone rings again. He tells Julia not to answer it then flees back to his hotel room. Another phone call. The voice says that he returned so he could pay and that they are waiting for him. Paul sits inside his yellow pentagram. The phone rings yet again. He can't stand it and runs out of the room again. He should have anwered it. This time it was Carolyn, back at Collinwood.
Paul finds himself at the Blue Whale. There he notices that the sign of the Naga has vanished from his wrist. He thinks he's save. Then he turns and sees Barnabas sitting at a table beckoning to him. Strangely he sits down. Barnabas is there to collect and wants Paul to remember back twenty years to the day he left Collinsport. Flashback: A dark haired (rather than gray haired) Paul Stoddard meets, in the Blue Whale, a strange little plays a game with him. The man agrees that Paul Stoddard will have wealth and success for twenty years after which Paul will give in exhange his most valuable possession. Paul says the stranger lost the game because the agreement was that Paul would pay whatever he has of value now, not what he will have in twenty years and he has nothing. The stranger seems to agree that he's been out foxed. Returning to December 4, 1969, Paul has lost all the wealth he gain over the years because it was intended that he do so. He says he had nothing then and has nothing now. Barnabas says he did and does but never realised it. Paul laughs. Thinking Barnabas means his soul he says he can have it. But Barnabas says his soul is obviously not his most valuable possesion. Carolyn walks in. Barnabas says "You are you father's most prized possession, you know." Roger shows up to take Carolyn home, but she won't go with her uncle, she leaves with her father, against his wishes (he thinks he can trick Barnabas into believing he does not value her). Roger warns about falling for Paul's charms and that Elizabeth would be upset to know that Barnabas was friends with Carolyn's father. Barnabas lies, claims he had no idea the man was Carolyn's father, then leaves on "important business".
Back at the hotel, Carolyn continues to think her father is mentally ill. He wants her to go away with him but she won't When she says the whatever is wrong has to be faced here, that the only hope for him is in Collinsport, he replies "Than there is no hope!"
At Collinwood, Roger has a plan to prove to Carolyn that Paul Stoddard is no good. He hands her a check written out to Paul Stoddard for $5,000. Roger claims that once Paul has the money nothing will keep him from leaving town.
Barnabas shows up at the antique store (and shows no surprise at Megan not being dead). There is some talk about how fast the child (still not actually seen) is growing. When Carolyn shows up for work Barnabas tells her that her father needs her love (by which he means unquestioning obedience) he's sure she'll see a change in her father very soon.
Paul wakes up to find Barnabas in his room. To protect Carolyn, Paul attempts to shoot Barnabas but the bullets have mysteriously vanished from the gun.
At the antique store Carolyn talks to Megan about having a father after all these years. Megan messes up her line and fails to notice: "I can't imagine not growing up with out a father, I love mine very much". She then makes a scripted slip, says she's an only child. When Carolyn questions her about the sister, who's child she's carring for, Megan says that her father married a widow with two daughters of her own. Then takes the baby upstairs. The phone rings, it's Philip. Carolyn takes a message. She starts to shout it then remembering the sleeping baby climbs the stairs. Upstairs a loud heavy breathing is heard. Megan explains the noise as being the radiator. Back downstairs, Carolyn spots a stranger look in through the windows. The man runs away then the lights in the shop go out.
In David's room, the book opens by itself. He starts to read it, "when the child shall be dressed in glorious garments", but is interupted by Elizabeth knocking on the door. David hides the book before opening the door. Elizabeth is shocked to learn that David knows about his uncle. She leaves annoyed. He starts searching his room for money.
Elizabeth receives a phone call from her former husband. He wants her to come to his hotel room to learn from him how to protect Carolyn from him.
David comes downstairs and tears a section out of the Collinsport Star newspaper. When Carolyn tells him he is not going shopping this late he says of course he's not, claims to be creating his Christmas list. When she tries to summon Maggie to put him to bed, he says he's old enough to put himself to bed, but actually sneaks out of the hose. Someone watches him pass by before entering the house. Camera shows the bottom half of the person. Whoever it is stops by the portrait of Barnabas then hides when Carolyn comes back. After Carolyn leaves the floor, the unbidden visitor leaves the house.
Paul Stoddard wants his ex-wife to take their daughter on a trip around the world, without telling anyone about it. She won't do it without a reason. When he tries to explain the sitiuation the phone rings. He refuses to answer. She does but only hears breathing. She leaves believe he's up to some scheme to involve Carolyn in what ever trouble he's in. He phones the front desk to ask that NO phone calls, ever, be sent through to his room as long he is staying in the hotel.
Elizabeth spots her nephew entering the antique store carrying a package. Megan says she's not seen him. Elizabeth insists on searching the place. David is in the baby's room when he hears his aunt's voice calling for him. She's about the open the door to the baby's room when a noise is heard downstairs. A desk is turned over. Elizabeth assumes that David was hiding behind it and knocked it over when he ran away.
Julia meets with Olivia Corey and agrees to have her Tate painting sent over so it can be photographed for an exhibition of Tate's works. Julia's plan is to have Chris Jennings pretend to be Mrs. Collins-Stoddard's chaufer delivering the painting, so he can get a sample of Olivia Corey's handwritting to compare to a note written by Amanda Harris in the previous century.
Olivia Corey hands the painting over to her Japanese "photographer" then keeps Chris busy by serving him tea. When he finaly decides its taking too long he bursts into the photographer's room to find the camera but no painting and no man. As he's accusing the famous actress of having the painting stolen, the photographer returns, claiming his camera was out of order and he had to have a local man take the photograph. Before leaving with the painting, Chris asks for an autograph. Elizabeth finds that the writing on the two notes are similar but needs an expert to determine if they are the same. Claims that expert would be Professor Stokes. Mr. Nakamura did not take the painting to a photographer but to an ex-ray technician. There is another painting under it, a portrait.
The next morning, Elizabeth visits the antique shop trying to find out what drew David to it. She wants to speak to Mrs. Todd but the couple is out. Carolyn is working there without them. Elizabeth sensing that something is wrong does not want Carolyn to work there anymore. Of course Carolyn doesn't take her mother's fears seriously. She says the Todds told her that David had taken the book and last night he snuck it back in but the book Carolyn showed her mother is not THE book. After Elizabeth leaves someone enters the shop. Again the camera is careful not to identify this person. However it is is wearing the same clothes and the same watch as the person who snuck into Collinwood.
David is reading the book. "And the enemies shall be overcome, one by one". Elizabeth walks in on him. She's never seen the book that was taken from the shop, but she suspects the Todds lied to Carolyn and takes the book away from David to show to the Todds to see what explination they give.
Barnabas visits the antique shop and learns that Carolyn is smitten with a man she's just met. She thinks he's the great love Barnabas prediced. Its obvious that Barnabas is surprised. She tells him the man is going to meet her at the shop at 10pm.
Learning from David that Elizabeth has the book, Barnabas invites David for a walk, to discuss all of David's troubles. Later, Barnabas shows up as Elizabeth is studying the book. She's figured out that its some kind of religious devotional book but otherwise can't read it. She accepts Barnabas' suggestion that he return it to the antique shop for her as he's heading for the village anyway. She goes up to bed.
Elizbeth has a nightmare in which a fat David takes her to a funhouse hall of mirrors. Much of the dream is done in a kaleidescope effect.
At 10PM Barnabas runs over the man who was to meet Carolyn, he claims that man jumped out in front of his car and he coudldn't see him until it was too late. The "Unknown Man" is listed in the ending credits as being played by David Selby.
Carolyn phones Julia from the hospital. Julia arrives at the hospital and learns that Carolyn wants her to examine accident victim Grant Douglas. Julia recognises Grant Douglas as Quenton Collins but of course doesn't tell Carolyn that she knows him.
As Megan enters the shop the lights go out one by one and she hears the voice of Barnabas calling "I'm coming to you, I'm coming to you". A new phase is beginning, involving "Philip's brother".
Julia takes Chris to the hospital and tells him the unconscious man is Quenton Collins. She checked out Grant Douglas and found out that other an address in Portland there are no records showing that the man has ever existed. Barnabas shows up and tries to convince them that this man cannot possibly be Quenton. After Barnabas leaves Chris remakrs sarcasticaly "he gets more cheerful every day". Julia says that Barnabas is the one who is deluded. "Quenton Collins does exist. It's the Barnabas Collins that I once knew who does not".
At the antique shop, Carolyn is susprised to meet Alexander (David Jay), Phillip's blond haired nephew. Supposedly, the baby was returned to his mother and Alex came for a visit in the baby's place. After Carolyn leaves to visit Grant in the hospital, her father enters the shop looking for her. When Alex tears December off the calender and circles January 15, 1970, Paul becomes upset and asks why the boy did that. Alex says it is his birthday, he's having a party and asks if Paul will come, Carolyn will (that will be news to her). Paul realises that the boy and the woman are working with Barnabas and turns to leave the shop. At that point Barnabas comes in and tells him "It won't be long now, not long at all. Everything is going splendidly". After Paul has left Barnabas pretends not to know Alexander and where the baby is.
Back at his hotel, Paul finds the calender in his room has January 15th circled. After 3 days of carrying uncle Roger's check around Carolyn finaly shows up to give it to her father. He realises that with that money he and Carolyn could escape but he also realises she wouldn't go and would think he came just for money if he kept it, so he tears up the check. Carolyn is of course releaved to learn that Roger was wrong about her father. He still wants to take Carolyn out of Collinsport.
Barnabas and Elizabeth talk about the accident. Elizabeth is wearing a gold colored lizard or dragon pin, but it doesn't seem to have more than one head so I guess its not the Naga. Carolyn hears them talking, removes her shoes and sneaks up the stairs. Back at the hotel, Paul is packing a suitcase. The phone rings, but he's not annoyed or frightened. He plans to meet the person on the other end at the train station but until then this person is to stay out of sight.
Elizabeth bursts into Paul's room looking for Carolyn. He tells her the truth, she claims she would not have believed it if he had not mentioned that Barnabas was the leader. She claims to have been worried about the change in Barnabas. She invites Paul to return to Collinwood, claiming that if he knows about the danger that threatens them all he's the one to fight. [As soon as she said he sould return with her I thought "They got her!" That pin must be the Naga after all.] She sends Paul to get Carolyn, and says that she will phone Collinwood to let them know they're coming. In fact she calls the antique store and informs Barnabas that "everything will be all right now".
Barnabs goes to the hospital to finish what he started, but he can't bring himself to strangle Quenton to death because Quenton saved his life once. So he give him once chance, but says next time he'll consider his debt paid.
At Collinwood, Paul soon learns that Elizabeth was just humoring him, that she think's he is ill, suffering delusions of persecution [at least that's what she pretends to believe, in reality the Leviathan People are controling her]
Julia catches Barnabas coming out of her patient's room. Her says there has been a change. The man in the bed is awake but seems to be suffering from amensia. He doesn't recognise Barnabas, Julia or Carolyn. Outside his room, Julia accuses Barnabas of taking his memories.
Back at Collinwood, Paul and Julia start to discuss Barnabas and the evil plot when Barnabas appears in the room, silencing Paul.
Later, Elizabeth brings Alexander to visit David, in fact he is there to arrange for Paul's destruction. Alexander has David give Paul a photoalbum of photos of Carolyn when she was growing up and he was not around. I don't know how this fits his plan to destroy Paul. Paul attempts to get Meggies's help. She doesn't really believe him and is just humoring him, until Roger comes home from a two day business trip and gives David the transitor radio he wanted. When Alexander says he wants it and David meekly gives it to him, Maggies begins to suspect that something isn't right with David and that Mr. Stoddard may be right about Alex.
Roger is shocked to find Paul Stoddard back in the house. He intends to find out why he is really here, he can't believe he actually loves Carolyn. Too bad Paul and Roger can't stand each other.
Paul finds Alexander in his room, supposedly playing hide-and-seek with David. When Paul attempts to question Alex the boy runs out of the room. When Paul goes searching for him he hears heavy breathing coming from behind a curtain. He pulls upon the curtain. End of volume 18 disc 1.
Interview with "Maggie Evans" My favorite part was when she talked about how during the Leviathan storyline no one, not even the writers, knew what was going on. At one point the writers couldn't remember something about the story so Dan Curtis told them to go ask the fans. So the writers went outside to tallk to the fans who were hanging around, at got the information they needed for the next script.

Volume 18, disc 2:
Instead of Alexander, Paul finds a little (blonde haired) girl who asks, "why did you do it, daddy" then runs away. He runs after her, but when he gets downstairs, Julia hasn't seen the girl (or Alexander) only David who is playing hide-n-seek with someone. According to the photo album the girl is Carolyn at age 8.
Oliva tells Chris that she wants to show Julia's Tate landscape to an gallery owner who will be in town soon. Chris tells Olivia that Julia is busy with a new patient but will get word to her. When Oliva hears the name Grant Douglas she is visibly shaken but of course Chris doesn't notice.
Julia hypnotises Grand but doesn't learn much, only that he is afraid of someone named Frederick Thorn. She leaves to arrange for a place for Grant to stay.
Back at Collinwood, the girl has returned, holding a book, "Black Beauty". Paul has her trapped in a room with only one door. When Julia shows up he decides to have her meet the girl as prove that he's not imagining things. When he opens the door, Alexander comes out of the room, holding the "Black Beauty" book.
Julia returns to the hospital and learns that Grant won't be going with her because he's agreed to go with Olivia. Having learned that Olivia had the painting x-rayed, Julia and Chris discover that there is another painting under the landscape, a portrait. Julia sends it to an art expert to have the top painting removed. Julia meets with Olivia to get her cooperation in treating Grant for amnesia.
Chris takes the painting to Professor Stokes who has the art expert meeting at his place. The painting underneath is not of Quenton. Seeing it, Chris says it is Olivia.
Julia takes Grant to Collinwood but he does not recognise anything except the painting of Barnabas. He says its the man who visited him in the hospital. Julia, lies says its not the same man but one of his ancestors. Julia takes Grant to Quenton's room and plays Quenton's favorite phonograph but Grant does not recognise the music. In his room, David wakes up with the feeling that Quenton is back. He heads for Quenton's room. Julia hears him coming, turns off the gramaphone and has Quenton hide. David thinks Quenton's ghost is controlling her and leaves the room. Julia sneaks Grant out of the house, but David is watching and over hears her address the man as Grant Douglas.
Julia goes to the antique shop to question Alexander but is interrupted by Elizabeth, David and Amy. Elizabeth takes Julia back to Collinwood to look at old paintings, leaving David in charge of Amy and Alexander. Amy finds a photo of 8 year old Carolyn and realising that Alexander took it without permission refuses to return it. She doesn't understand why David is afraid of the smaller Alexander. David threatens to send Quenton's ghost after Amy. Amy runs out of the room. David makes a phone call. Later David, Alexander and a reluctant Amy play hide-n-seek. When Amy opens her eyes after counting to ten, Grant enters the shop. Amy flees in terror. Grant reclaims the book David phone him to pick up.
Julia finds a painting that is almost identical to the Tate but it is signed by a different artist, Harrison Monroe, and dated 1968. According to the art expert Tate died "ten years ago" (that would be 1959 or 1960, the episodes are from December 1969).
Amy runs upstairs. She hears heavy breathing. She enters Alexander's room and screams.
Next episode: Barnabas enters the antique shop. He's angry that Alexander let Amy into his room. This could ruin everything. Alexander does not like being given orders but Barnabas insists that he is in charge until the boy has grown up, when he's an adult Barnabas will obey him but until then Barnabas expects to be obeyed. Alexander is mad that David told on him but Barnabs forbids him to punish David. Barnabas says that Alexander will be locked in his room. Taking the Levithan Box, Barnabas sets out to undue what Alexander has done.
Professor Stokes takes the uncovered portrait to Julia, who recognises it as Amanda Harris. She claims to have seen other such paintings. When she shows Stokes the other painting he thinks its a late Charles Tate. He's surprised to read the name, Harrison Monroe. He questions Julia about her obssession with Charles Tate but of course she doesn't explain it. She asks Stokes to take the other landscape to the art expert for his opinion.
Chris Jennings returns home to find Amy waiting for him. She's in shock and can't speak. She writes down "shop" but he doesn't know what it means. Julia arrives and sends Chris to find David and make him tell what happened at the antique shop. As Julia attempts to get Amy to write down what she saw, Barnabas appears, claiming to want to see Christ. Amy is able to blurt out "water" but Julia refuses to leave Amy alone with Barnabas so he goes to get a glass of water. Julia asks Amy if she can talk now then tells her not to say anything until Barnabas leaves. This is where Julia goofed: Barnabas returns, Amy drinks the water. Barnabas touches her forehead. Says she doesn't have a fever. Then touches her face and looks intently into her eyes saying that he's sure she'll feel better soon. Amy falls asleep. Chris returns with Julia's doctor bag and the information that David, Amy and Alexnader were playing hide-n-seek when Amy mistook Grant Douglas for Quenton. Amy wakes but all she remembers is seeing Quenton. Professor Stokes shows up with the news that Professor Osborn is almost certain the other landscape is by Charles Deleware Tate. Stokes also has Harrison Monroe's address. While Julia sets out to meet Harrison Monroe whom she believs to be Charles D. Tate, Chris returns Amy to Collinwood.
Amy finds Alexander and Barnabas waiting for her, but does not run away. She sees the Leviathan Box and opens it. Then she returns the photo of Carolyn, age 8, to Alexander and appologises for disobeying him. Now Barnabas, Megan, Phillip, Alex, David, Elizabeth and Amy are all Leviathan People.
Julia meets what appears to be an unchanged, still young, Charles Deleware Tate. However, he speaks through a loudspeakder and does not allow her to come near him. He wants to be left alone and claims he cannot help Chris Jennings because he can no longer paint. When Julia points out that he did a landscape a year ago and has maintained his youth, he laughs and says that he has become his own work of art. He sends Julia away ordering her never to return. Sounds of a howling wolf are heard.
Roger is concerned about his son as David does not seem to be himself. David goes to his room, to do homework before going to bed. Actually, he reads the Leviathan Book. Learning that another manifistation is due he takes Elizabeth to the shop to pay homage. Alexander has grown. He now wants to be called Michael (played by Michael Maitland). That is not the name Megan and Phillip chose the willfill kid renamed himself Michael. (We are not told what name Megan and Philip had chosen). Michael yells Elizabeth to leave David for the night. Reluctantly she leaves. Michael, disobeys Barnabas and deteremines to punish David for telling on him by making David spend the night alone in the dark antique shop. Megan and Phillip are in their room and won't leave it tonight.
Discovering that his son is missing Roger searches the grounds of Collinwood while Julia searchs the house. Elizbeth arrives back at home just in time to stop Roger from reporting David missing to the sheriff. She says David is spending the night with a friend. Roger asks Julia to excuse them and ask Elizabeth to step into the drawing room, so they can have a family quarrel in private. Julia stars up the stairs but turns back around once the drawing room door is closed. She listens to the argument at the door. Elizabeth claims to think that Roger would be pleased to know that all that was bothering David was that his friend Alexander is leaving town. Roger doesn't approve of Alexander and would not have agreed to let David spend the night in a strange house.
David must stay awake all night, must not leave and must not call out for help. Nothing exicting happens, but David becomes spooked anyway. He picks up the phone but remebers that he's not allowed to call for help and then heavy breathing is heard. In the morning, Julia shows up to see Caroly. Michael introduces himself as another visting relative of Megan and Philips but Julia recognises the crecent moon shapped birthmark on his arm as the same mark she saw on Alexander. Julia leaves since Carolyn is not there. Although she said nothing about the birthmark, Michael realises that she recognised it and tells David that she must be dealt with immediatly. Michael calls for Barnabas. When Barnabas arrives Michael orders him to kill Julia. Barnabs refuses.
Back at the Old House, Barnabas talks to the Leviathan Box, telling the Leviathans that he will not harm Julia. He falls asleep and in his dream meets a Leviathan who tells him that Barnabas and the others are not true Leviathans and must always have their loyalty tested. Barnabas again refuses to kill Julia. The Leviathan vanishes. Barnabas goes outside and is bitten by a huge bat. He awakens from the dream. He seems to be allright until Megan shows up wanting his help to resist Michael. Barnabas finds himself staring at Megan's neck. Afraid of what he's now feeling he kicks her out. After she's gone he looks in a mirror, there is no reflection. He finds himself walking around by the docks. A woman he's never met before tries to pick him up. He bites the woman then horrified at what he's done returns to the Old House and has another dream. In the woman, now a vampire follows him to the Old House. The Leviathan man appears after sending the woman, who was one of them all along, away he tells Barnabas that they captured Josette in the 1700s and will hold her hostage until Barnabas deals with Julia. (This is a lie, Josette commited suicide by taking poison.) Julia need not die but she must be dealt with never the less. When Barnabas awakens this time, he sees his reflection in the mirror. The Levithan have restored him, but he must obey.
Julia tells Elizabeth that Joseph, Alexander and Michael all have the identical birth mark. Of course, Elizbeth claims its just a coididence. Chris is afraid because it will be the night of a fullmoon. Julia plans to be with Grant because if he's quenton and the painting has been burnt up then he too will change. Elizabeth warns Barnabas who decides that Julia must become a Levithan person.
Grant is drunk and can't explain to Olivia why.
After a visit from Barnabas, Julia is tired and goes to bed. In her dream, Barnabas tries to make her open the Leviathan Box but she refuses. When Julia wakes, Elizabeth is in the drawing room, with the box. Julia is saved by a knock on the door. Its Chris. She leaves with him. Barnabas tells Elizabeth that some people cannot be absorbed, something different about the genetics. He assigns Elizabeth to finding a way to deal with Julia.
Julia takes the picture to Oliva, who is no longer insterested in. Julia thinks its because its not a portrait of Quenton Collins. Julia wants to show the portrait of Amanda to Grant, but his room is a shambles and he is not in it.
Paul attempts to leave Collinwood but is stopped by a well meaning Carolyn. When Elizabeth enters the drawing room Paul faints. Back in his bedroom Paul refuses to take his medicine beliving its keeping him weak and bed ridden. So Elizabeth has Mrs. Johnson put the drug in his milk. He only pretends to drink the milk however and fakes being asleep when they discuse his being moved to the tower room. He escapes from Collinwood but faints in the forest. He's found by Prof. Stoke who takes him to the police station at his request. Paul tries to tell the police about the conspiracy against him but of course they just humor him. He rests in a cell why Stokes phones "Carolyn" for him. When Paul awakes its Elizabeth that Stokes had phone not Carolyn. Stokes isn't as far as I know under the spell of the Leviathan, he just doesn't believe Paul.
David is sent, by Barnabas, to remind her that its her responsability to do something about Julia. When David asks what she will do, Elizabeth replies "kill her".
The next morning there are no newpaper stories about brutal murders or strange animal sightings. Julia doesn't understand it. Elizbeth points a gun at Julia's back but can't bring herself to fire. So, David decides to consult the Leviathan Book. He learns from it that Leviathan People can't kill humans directly but must get other humans to do it, because if a Leviathan person kills a human, the human's spirit will return to do battle against them. David thinks this means that Elizabeth is a "True Leviathan" that something in her kept her from disobeying the book. Elizabeth on the other hands thinks its just that she remebered that she and Elizabeth were friends.
Chris wants to Julia to take him to see Charles D. Tate. Julia doesn't think Tate can be of any help, because Grant is apparently become a werewolf. Julia goes to see Oliva but is surprised to find Grant instead. She learns that he spent the night in a bar in Portland, where he got into a fight. She also learned that he found the locker the key in his pocket fit. Inside were letters to Frederick Thorn from a gilted girl and a newspaper portrait of Olivia.
Back, at Collinwood, Julia phones the bar in Portland to check Grant's story. And discovering that it is true, he did not turn into a wolf-man she now thinks the portraint of Quenton must sill exist and therefore there is hope for Chris.
As David goes to see Barnabas, to make sure he's not angry with Elizabeth, Chris convinces Grant to go with him to see Tate. Grant agrees to pretened to be Quenton so Chris can get in. At first Tate calls Grant a liar because he's young, but Grant points out that so is Charles. Tate then says they both are clever men and found away to stay young. He accuses Grant of taking Amanda Harris from him. When Grant doesn't know who that is, Charles laughs at Amanda being a fool to go off with Quenton. Grant frustrated, throughs something at Charles and runs out. Chris is shocked to see Charles Tate's head fall off. What he's talking to is just a life sized dummy! The real Charles Delaware Tate is a tired old man. Chris demands that he paint his portrait. Charles insist that he has no power to help him. Chris tells him there is a full moon coming and that he's not leaving without his portrait so Tate better get started.
Someone comes up behind Carolyn and puts their hands over her eyes. She thinks it's "Alex" playing a game but the stranger introduces himself as Michael and tells her a sob story about being orphaned and taken in by cousins. [Now how are they going to explain away his leaving and the next guy appearing when he grows up rapidly again?] Michael is smitten with Carolyn. He tries to give her a gift, a locket with the Naga on it, but she recognises it as Megan's and won't accept it. When Phillip comes downstairs, he won't let him give away Megan's locket either. Carolyn gets nervous with Michael staring at her all day and goes out for coffee. When she asks if Philip or Michael want anything, Michael says he will go with her, Philip says "No you won't" and she goes alone. Michael does not like Philip controlling him and threatens to remeber how he was treated when he's bigger and can do something about it.
Tate finishes the portrait of Chris, but it didn't do anything for Chris who transforms into the werewolf. Quenton is outside the door. End of episode, end of disc.
Interview with "Jeb Hawkes". I have no idea who Jeb Hawkes is. They must have put the interview on the wrong disc because no no such character is on it.

Volume 18, disc 3:
Grant breaks in. He punches the werewolf which falls down but gets up again. When Grant reachs for a silver candlestick the monster flees. Grant finds a bleeding old man on the floor. He realises that the old man must be Charles Tate. When he asks what happened, the dying man asks "don't you known, have you forgotten everything, Quentin?"
Julia shows Olivia the two hand writing samples in the hope that she will admit to being Amanda Harris. Of course she does not. When the phone rings its Grant looking for Dr. Hoffman. Learning that Charles D. Tate has been hurt, Julia decides to take Olivia with her to see how they react to each other. Julia does not seem surprised that Tate is now an old man. She tries to get him to tell her where the portrait of Quentin is but he wants to trade the knowledge for life but she can't save him. So, Julia brings in Olivia and when he recognises her as Amanda Harris, Julia tries again to get the information but he falls dead. Olivia is so upset that Julia thinks she's proven that she is Amanda Harris but Olivia still won't admit it, runs out claiming that any death frightens her.
Olivia encounters the werewolf but something frightens it away.
Later, Julia walks in on Olivia who is talking to Quentin, who isn't there and holding a locket. The locket was "To AH from QC". Olivia finally admits to being Amanda Harris and tells a strange story of how when Quentin left her she planed to take her own life. A strange man tried to stop her but she jumped off the bridge anyway. She found herself in what looked like a hotel lobby and although she could hear voices there was no one there. The man appears and tells her that he's going to let her live a long lifetime and if in the time she can find Quentin and convince him to stay then the two of them will be together forever. Amanda is afraid her time is nearly up and she'll die without Quentin loving her again. After Julia leaves there is a knock on Amanda's hotelroom door. It's the man, he's come for her! She now recognises that man is death. When she asks how long she has, he tells her that he drove the beast away because it was not yet her time. She has exactly 4 minutes and Quentin is not in his room. Death relents. He gives Amanda 7 more days and promises that this is the last time he will be moved to help her.
Julia discovers that all the pictures of Quentin have been removed from the family photo albums.
Sabrina shows up at Collinport, she takes Carolyn to see something. She shows Carolyn the house were a man was just murdered. Of course it means nothing to confused Carolyn. When Julia shows up she has Carolyn take Sabrina to Collinwood and phone the rest home to pick up Sabrina. Going through Tates desk, Julia learns that "Harrison Monroe" had been writing art gallieries trying to find a Charles D. Tate portraint titled "A View from South Wales" which finished just before the fire at Tate's studio at the turn of the century. She keeps looking at finds a receipt which sends her after a Skylar Rumson, who bought the painting. She meets the man sees the painting. She wants to borrow it but he says she would have to ask his wife as its her favorite. He shows her a painting of his wife. Mrs. Rumson (of only 6 months) is Angelique (I figured that dang witch would show up sometime.]
When Angelique arrives she's not pleased to see Julia. She doesn't want anyone at Colllinwood to know shes nearby. She claims to be a normal human now and to be happy with her new life with Sky. Julia agrees to keep her secret in exchange for borrowing the painting.
Maggie won't let David go visit Michael so Michael shows up uninvited at Collinwood. Against her better judgment she lets Michael stay and play quiet games with David. David has a cold and she doesn't want David playing in rough games that could make it worse. David catches Michael cheating. Michael insists that he must win. Maggie comes in wanting to talk to David about his poor homework. She doesn't like Michael's attidude. She gives David 5 minutes to finish the game. After she leaves Michael says the game is through and they have a new game to play. Michael removes the fuses so the lights go out but instead of frightening Maggie it just makes her angy. She tells Michael its time for him to leave. She tells David that as far as she is concerned Michael need never return. Alone in her room, Maggie hears heavy breathing. It seems to be coming from behind a wall. When she leans up against the wall a secret door opens. She passes through the door and it slams shut behind her.
Magen is mad because Philip is 3 hours late. When he arrives he tells her he spent two hours looking at the ocean and thinking. Philip is starting to think for himself again but Megan despite her attempt to get Barnabas to help her is resisting Michael has fallen further under his power and won't listen to Phillips concerns when he learns that Michael is spending the night with David at Collinwood. Phillip fears for David.
The next morning, Roger find David and Michael playing a game. Michael is cheating again, insisting that his rules are all that matter. Roger had not yet met Michael. Michael claims he returned to finish the game they started last night. David says Michael is a cousin of Alexander. Roger says he realised that and leaves the room. From that little remark, Michael concludes that Roger hated Alexander and chasties David for keeping that knowledge from him. When David says his father didn't hate Alexander and insists that Michael pay him $500 dollars for stocks so they can finsh the game, Michael gets mad and flips the game board over.
Michael lies to David, claiming to have no idea where Maggie is. Maggie finds herself locked in another room. Rogers searcher the house for her but can't find her.
David and Michael are playing cards. Phillip show up to take Michael back to the shop. Phillip learns that Maggie is missing. Back at the shop he starts to give the boy a richly diserved spanking but Megan threatens Phillip and he bags down, going upstairs. Michael tells Megan that Phillip could cause them to fail that he shouldn't be one of them anymore. Michael leaves the shop. Megan reaches for a gun. Barnabas arrives just in time to stop Megan from shooting Phillip.
Michael returns to Collinwood. He tells David he is looking for his book. He says he does not need David or anyone else. Its been quiet for hours but the heavy breathing starts up again terrorfying Maggie.
After learning from Phillip what's been happening Barnabas decides that Michael is jeopardising their plans therefore its the end for Michael. He must be found and locked in his room until its time for another change. When Phillip points out that they've told everyone that Michael is an orphaned child that he can't just go away, Barnabas says Michael's departure will be different than Alexander's and the baby's.
Phillip shows up at Collinwood looking for Michael. David takes Phillip to Megan's room and opens the secret panel. Phillip goes in. Michael spots Phillip but Phillip doesn't see Michael. A voice tells Maggie that its coming to her. Phillip finds a door. A frightened Maggie grabs and candle stick and raises it hight to strike down whoever opens the door.
Julia is in the drawing room reading when Michael pops out of the secret door. He likes to her about not knowing where Maggie is. Maggie runs into the room. Michael runs out. Maggie claims it was Philip who terrorized her and that she killed him. Michael pleased goes to tell Megan. Megan goes to Collinwood looking for Phillip.
Someone enters the shop. Michael says the shop is closed and looks up to see....Phillip. He was only stunned not killed. Phillip starts to drag Michael upstairs when Magen appears to take charge. She sends Michael to her room. (apparently Megan and Phillip changed rooms when the put their old room in darkness). Megan tells Michael that he won't like what has to happen next. He says if she does it he won't love her any more. She says "I know but you will love Carolyn". Philip draws a heart with "Michael" and "Carolyn" in the middle, on Magen's mirror. She says this proves she's right about what must happen.
Maggie shows up at the shop to applogise to Phillip. Magen comes down the stairs histerical because something is wrong with Michael. Doctor Hoffman is called. While she's checking out the boy, he dies.
After the funeral, Julia goes to see Stokes about the painting but obssesed with the mystery of Michael's sudden death she doesn't stay, while Stokes is out of the room getting a snake for her she leaves, to check out the small town where Megan and Phillip said Michael's parents were from.
Julia meets a woman who supposedly carred for Michael before he moved in with Megan and Phillip. Julia seems to believe her story and leaves. Phillip comes in from another room and pays the woman off. When Phillip leaves he doesn't see Julia hiding in the shadows but she sees him.
Julie returns to Stokes and tells him what's been happening. He visits the antique shop. He notices Megan's necklace. He buys a statue. He notices that Phillips ring has the same symbol on it. He leaves. Megan and Phillip hear a noice coming from upstairs. Michael walks down the stairs. "I've decided not to go through with it". Phillip drags Michael back to his room and locks the door from the outside. Then because the normal lock might not be enough to keep Michael in, Phillip decides to add a bolt.
Paul sneaks out of room to get a gun from the drawing room. Carolyn finds him in the room but doesn't know about the gun. He wants her to bring him food, because he can trust her not to drug it (actually he can't since she thinks he's really sick). Returning to his room, Paul finds Barnabas waiting for him. Paul pulls out the gun. Barnabas says he is there to help. He's returned Pauls clothing and left him enough money to get out of Collinsport. He promises to protect Carolyn if Paul will go away.
The Todds accept Elizabeth's invitation to dinner. Carolyn finds her father dressed as if to go out. He says he wants to go to the Blue Whale and she agrees to meet him on terrace to go with him in half an hour. Barnabas hiding in Paul's room tells Paul to give him ten minutes to distract Elizabeth, Carolyn and the guests so Paul can sneak out. Elizabeth is concerned about what will happen to Carolyn when the Levithan People take over Collinsport. She wants Carolyn to become one of them. Barnabas is surprised by this and Magen senses that something is wrong with Barnabas. Barnabas had closed to the door to the drawing room so Paul would not seen but Carolyn leaves it open when she comes in. Megan suddenly gets tears in her eyes and is sad over Michael. Barnabas closes the doors again. Megan left her purse in the foyer and Paul takes her keys from it.
Paul enters the antique shop looking for evidence of the conspiracy. Finding none downstairs he goes up and hearing heavy breathing from behind a door unbars it, unlocks it and goes in. Megan and Phillip come home and find Paul in the room. Something in there won't let them take Paul out.
At Collinwood, Barnabas asks Julia to stay out of it, to trust him to fix things. Megan phones Collinwood looking for Barnabas. Barnabas goes to the shop and takes Paul of out the room saying that for now he is the master, that the time will come when that is not true but for now he's in charge. He has Megan prepare a cot in the basement. Carolyn and Julia come to the shop looking for Paul. Megan and Paul lie, claiming not to have seen him. Barnabas stays in the basement with Paul. Julia and Carolyn leave but only Carolyn heads back to Collinwood. Julia stays around hiding in the shadows she sees Barnabas when he leaves. Megan gives Phillip sleeping pills so he won't be awake to stop her from disobeying Barnabas' order to leave that room looked until morning. The heavily breathing thing which we never see heads for the basement after Paul. Barnabas returns intime to save Paul. Barnabas leads the unseen thing back to its room then chooses out Megan for unboloting the door. He tells her he will take care of Paul Stoddard but when he gets back to the basement Paul is gone. Paul runs into Julia who takes him to Stokes.
Paul is in shock and can't talk. His clothes are torn and seem to be wrotting away. The hair on his arm is singed. Stokes wants to send the police to the shop but Julia convinces him to wait until Paul can speak.
Julia goes to see Prof. Osborn to see if the painting is ready. Amanda Harris aka Olivia Corey has only two hours to live. Julia phones Amanda to have her bring Grant. Julia uncovers the painting. Amanda takes one look at it and runs out of the room screaming. Grant winces. Julia calls after Amanda. The camera does not show the painting. I'm guessing its of Quentin as a werewolf. Or its like the Portrait of Dorian Gray, showing the age Quentin should be.
End of episode, end of disc.

Volume 18, disc 4:
The painting is of an old and ugly Quenton, every sin he's comitted effected the painting instead of him. Grant remembers that he is Quenton but too late to save Amanda, "Mr. Best" takes her away.
Later, at Olivia's hotel suite, Quenton attempts to kill himself but is stopped by Mr Best. He takes Quenton, still alive to his realm which looks like a hotel lobby. He makes a deal with Quenton. If he and Amanda can make it through the many traps the bar the way to the world of the living then Quenton and Amanda may be together for eternity, however neither must touch the other or Amanda will be lost to Quenton. If Quenton makes it out alone, than Amanda will be lost to him. If he cannot make it out then he will be lost as well. As Quenton wonders what awaits them throught the door Amanda comes up behind him, arms reaching for him.
Megan phones the sheriff, concerned about Pau. Phillip discovers the door to the locked room shattered, "he" has escaped.
Quenton turns in time to stop Amanada from touching him. They set out on their journey. Amanda gets caught in a web. Quenton kills the spider with a rock and is able to free Amanda without touching her. They have to cross a rope bridge, Amanda is afraid of it. Quenton makes it across just fine.
Paul Stoddard gets away from Prof. Stokes and locks himself in another room (same one we lost saw Adam sent to hide in before the 1800s story line and the writters forgot about Adam). Paul wants to talk to the police. As Julia pretends to phone the police, Paul is heard screaming in terror. He comes out of the room and falls over dead. Stokes says the room, the interior of which we don't see, is a shambles. There was no one else in it just some slime and a strange smell. Julia and the sheriff agree to tell the Collins family that Paul died of a heartattack, until they can discover what really happened.
Amanda is almost across the bridge when it breaks underneath her. Quenton catches her. With Quenton taking the, lead they try to head for the light. Quenton makes it but the roof of the cave falls in on Amanda. Quenton wakes in the woods, alone. Amanda's voice is heard saying goodbye.
Paul's last words refered to a basement and a room at the top of the stairs. Julia having seen Paul leaving the antique shop figures out this is the place he meant. The sherif gets a search warrent. When he opens the door to the room at the top of the stairs a blond haired young man is in the room. He calls himself Jeb Hawkes. Like Alexander and Michael, he's arrogant and self-centered. Jeb claims to be renting the room. The sheriff finds something on the floor on the first floor of the shop and puts it in his pocket. Later, when Barnabas tells Jeb that according to the Book, Paul Stoddard was supposed to give his daughter to Jeb in marriage, Jeb doesn't care about the book and wants Barnabas to bring Carolyn to him. The second time the sherif sees Jeb he tells the man that he should find another room to rent and to make different friends.
Julia takes a chance. She tells Barnabas that the sherif phoned her to let her know that he found a burnt cufflink, in the antique shop. It matches one found on Paul's body.
An unseen something attacks the sheriff in his office. When Barnabas shows up he finds Jeb standing over the sheriff's body. Jeb demands to know what Barnabas is doing in the sheriff's office. When the scene is replayed for the next episode, Barnabas finds the body and then Jeb enters the room behind Barnabas. Barnabas claims he was going to explain away the cofflink without saying how.
Elizabeth phones the Todds to insist that they come to the funeral despite the gossip about their shop being involved in Paul's death. Barnabas shows up at Collinwood and informs Rodger about the murder of the sheriff. Jeb returns to the shob and is angry that the Todds left it without informing him. He finds a note about the funeral. After the funeral (which is not shown), Elizabeth, Rodger, Carolyn and Barnabas are at the grave side. Carolyn is refusing to leave it and blames herself for her father's death. From behind a tombstone, Jeb is watching his intended bride.
Jeb summons Barnabas to the shop to talk about Carolyn. Barnabas stolls by claiming Carolyn is too grief stricken now. He also claims the book won't allow him to give her away, again Jeb doesn't care about the book.
Back at Collinwood, Barnabas tells Carolyn to take a trip to New York. He makes the mistake of doing it in front of Elizabeth. Carolyn of course refuses. She goes to have an off camera visit with the new widow. Elizabeth wants Carolyn to become "one of us" but Barnabas claims the book says that can't happen for several months yet. On camera Carolyn at the antique shop. The Todds are out but she meets Jeb. Later, Barnabas learns from Jeb that Carolyn is to enter Jeb's room and become like he is. Then one by one all Jeb's followers will do the same. They'll be taken totally over by the Leviathan. Jeb plans to marry Carolyn on Friday.
David is in a wheelchair with a broken leg. A blond man with strange eyes jumped out from behind some bushes causing David to crash his bicycle. Julia recognizes the description of the man as Jeb.
Barnabas is to prepare roooms at Collinwood for Jeb and Carolyn to occupy after the wedding also after the wedding Rodger is to become a Leviathan person, or be added to the enemy list. Jeb wants Julia, Maggie, Amy and Mrs. Johnson dead. Amy is a Leviathan person but she was made so against his wishes. David wheels himself into the shop and recognises Jeb. Later, David finds Jeb in his bedroom. Jeb gives David his watch, because David gave Michael his radio. Maggie finds Jeb in David's room and tells him to leave. Downstairs, Jeb apologises to Julia for being so rude on their first meeting. Now with the watch off his wrist, the birthmark is visible and Julia notices it when they shake hands.
Julia has Quenton help her dig up Michael's coffin. Barnabas asks Maggie to attempt to convince Carolyn to stay away from the antique shop. Julia returns to Collinwood and informs Barnabas that Michael's coffin is empty. Barnabas takes Julia to the Old House to tell her everything. Through flash backs Barnabas tells her about the apparent death of Petofi, his changing history so Josette doesn't fall to her death (he doesn't know she took poison when he didn't show up). Julia tells Barnabas about getting the painting of Quenton from Angelique. The scene with Barnabas and Oberon however is not a replayed scene but is actually an entirely new scene in which Oberon explains the Leviathan plan of having one of them take on human form, marry a human female and produce a new species. Barnabas tells Julia that Jeb ignores the books warning against killing. He says that Jeb can raise those he kills, to produce an army of the dead. At the sheriff's grave, a hand bursts up through the dirt.
Maggie tries to talk Carolyn into avoiding the antique shop but fails. The dead sheriff walks. Outside Collinwood, Carolyn hears somebody walking around. It's Jeb. He tells Carolyn they're going to be married Friday. She of course thinks he's nuts and goes back inside. Jeb leads the zombie to the antique shop. Later, Carolyn receives roses and a note apologizing from Jeb. Learning that Jeb is working on Carolyn, Barnabas decides that Jeb must die. Barnabas goes to the shop and apologizes to Jeb, agrees to obey him to the best of his ability. He suggests a drink to celebrate their new relationship, and puts poison in Jeb's glass. Jeb makes a toast, to Carolyn and her future with him. He then orders Barnabas to repeat it, sounding like he means it. Barnabas does so and they both drink their drinks.
The poison has no effect so Barnabs decides that he must take Carolyn away, by trickery or by force if neccesary. He makes Julia tell him where Angelique is then he goes to see her. When he mentions the Leviathan People she recognizes them as creatures of the underworld and wants to know how Barnabas got involved with them.
Carolyn has a visit from Grant Douglas who tells her that he's actually the great-grandson and namesake of Quenton Collins. He claims that he's a writer and that Grant Douglas is his pen name. While he's there Jeb shows up. The two instinctively dislike each other.
Angelique agrees to let Caroyln stay why her husband is away. She warns Barnabas that she still has all her powers and that if her helping him ruins her happiness she wil never forgive him.
Carolyn has a date with Jeb at 8. Its going on 7. The plan is for Julia to take Carolyn to "meet a friend of her father's". At Collinwood the phone rings. Its Jeb for Barnabas. Jeb suspected treachery and moved the date up to 7. Jeb, ignoring the books claim that the woman must go into the marriage willingly, puts a drug in Carolyn's drink so he can carry her into his room against her will. As he starts to carry her up the stairs, Quenton appears. The two men fight. Jeb can change FROM his true form anywhere but can only change to it in his room, so he has to fight Quenton as a human. Quenton hits him over the head.
At Collinwood, Barnabas is worried about Quenton not being back yet. He starts to leave but is stopped by Maggie. He has to talk her out of goiing with him. After Maggie leaves to pick something up for Elizabeth, Elizabeth wants to know what she has done wrong, that others have met their leader but she has not. There is a knock on the door. Thinking it could be Jeb (she doesn't know that he just bardges in without knocking) she opens the door. It's Quenton carrying the unconscious Carolyn. Barnabas tells Elizabeth that Julia recommands days of rest for Carolyn and he's arrange a retreat on an island. To get Elizabeth to agree he has to claim that she can't become one of them until she's in the best of health. Elizabeth still longs to meet their leader. Quenton leaves against Barnabas' advice.
In the woods, Jeb sees Quenton but doesn't take his revenge yet. Maggie has an encounter with Jeb in the same woods. When Maggies doesn't make her ten o'clock meeting with Barnabas, he goes to see Jeb. Jeb lies about not knowing where she is. Barnabas threatens to consult Oberon about what to do about Jeb's disobeying the book. Jeb comes to the conclusion that Barnabas loves Maggie. The final scene is of Maggie inside the Collins family tomb, lying still.

Volume 19, disc 1:
Although Jeb doesn't care what the Book says about not killing, he is concerned what could happen if he killed Barnabs without proof that Barnabas is a traitor. A man wearing a Naga ring enters the shop. He calls himself Bruce and offers to do anything to prove his loyalty to Jeb, he doesn't accept the Book's restrictions either. (Same actor who played the evil count's dagger wielding assistant)
The police have found no sign of Maggie. Barnabas wants David to read the Book, in order to learn about Jeb's other weakness (besides impatientce) in order that he can "protect" Jeb. David learns that there is an enemy who could destroy the Leviathan leader but he doesn't tell Barnabas, he tells Jeb. The enemy is "the wolf who walks like a man". Hearing this Jeb is momentarily frightened but he reverts to his normal arogant self.
Maggie awakes in the tomb (which is apparently not the Collins family tomb after all) and meets the dead sheriff. Bruno arrives but even threatening to have her killed and made a zombie fails to get him any information. So, Jeb takes the Leviathan Box to Maggie and makes her open it. Believing that Maggie is now a Leviathan Person he lets her go.
Barnabas and Julia find a letter from Maggie claiming she went to see an aunt in Portland. Barnabas doesn't believe the note. Maggie shows up with a suitcase in hand. She wants to talk to Barnabas, alone.
Sabrina brings Chris the "Moon Poppy". The flower will bloom as the moon rises, if he can eat the flower before he loses control, he will be cured of being a werewolf.
Finally getting Barnabas alone, Maggie claims that nothing happened when the box opened, that she pretended something did to fool Jeb. When Julia enters the room Barnabas tells her that they have a new ally.
Chris is unable to eat the flower. Barnabas finds it on the floor. Sabrina comes in and screams out her disappointment. She tells Barnabas that this is the night that Chris will die and runs out into the woods to find him.
Hearing the howling, Jeb recites the gypsy's poem from "The Wolfman" then he tells Bruno that the Leviathan could never control the werewolves. Bruno goes out to shot the werewolf, despite Jeb's warning that ordinary bullets won't kill it.
Barnabas receives a phone call from Angelique who wants to see him right away. Afraid that something has happened to Carolyn, Barnabas goes to the antique shop. Jeb is so frightened by the holwing of the werewolf that he lets his guard down and tells Barnabas that the werewolf could kill him.
Sabrina meets the werewolf but Bruno shows up and shooting the werewolf drives it off. Bruno returns to the shop. Jeb tells him again that ordinary bullets can't kill it only wound it. Bruno tells him about Sabrina and Jeb concludes that her brother who is out of town for the night is probably the werewolf. Bruno suggesting waiting until morning and then killing Sabrina and her brother but Jeb says that killing him in human form would only turn him into an animal forever. So Bruno runs off to try to kill the werewolf while its still night.
Although Angelique's husband has no objections to house guests, she wants Barnabas to take Elizabeth and Carolyn away because she is afraid they will recognise her as Roger's wife. He agrees to take theym somewhere else, tomorrow.
Jeb receives a phone call informing him of where Carolyn is. He plans for the ceremony to take place tonight, on the island, away from the werewolf. Angelique receives a phoner call from her husband, he wants her to pick him up at the airport. Elizbeth receives a phone call, from Jeb, ordering her to return to Collinwood alone. Alone, Carolyn is frightened by a thunderstorm which knocks out the lights. See meets Sky who claims he remebered an important phone call he had to take at home so unable to wait for Angelique he took a cab. Carolyn has a nightmare in which Jeb reveals to her that he was the baby Joseph, and Alexander and Michael. When she sees that Jeb's hands are covered in blood she wakes up screaming. Sky helps her to her room. Sky then leaves his front door unlocked. Carolyn meets Jeb as he really is (all the audience sees is a shadow). Carolyn screams then trips, hitting her head, knocking herself out. The shadow becomes Jeb, "I can't go through with it". He realises that he doesn't want to take her by force. Jeb leaves Sky to watch over Carolyn and make sure that she remembers nothing when she wakes. She remebers only getting ut to close banging shutters.
Elizabeth meets Bruno inside Collinwood. Hearing howling he returns to hutting for the werewolf. Jeb arrives to talk to Elizabeth. He instructs her to tell Barnabas that she told Jeb where Carolyn was. Carolyn phones and talks to her mother and to Jeb, apparently she forgot the nightmare because she sounds pleased to talk to Jeb. Jeb goes looking for Barnabas. At the Old House, the werewolf attacks Jeb but is too weak because of the gunshot wound to kill him, he only knocks him out. In the morning, Barnabas finds Jeb and Chris unconscious. He wakes Chris and sends him away. Then he wakes Jeb and claims that he drove the beast away by hitting it with his silver tipped cane.
Sky accuses his wife of keeping secrets from him so to regain his trust she tells him all she knows about Barnabas and the Leviathans. Sky goes to the antique shop to tell Jeb. Jeb goes to the grave of man hung for murder and calls upon the spirits of the underworld to release the dead man's spirit in order to pubish the traitor Barnabs Collins. The dead murder's spirit is sent to Jeb in the form of a large black bat.
Barnabas has Julia and Maggie help him to contact the spirit of Josette. Josette speaks through Maggie, she says she knows no Leviathans, that after Barnabas did not come for her she took poison. She tells him to come to her grave. Baranabs tells Julia and Maggie that they need to destroy the Leviathan Box so there can be no more friends turned to enemies. Carolyn makes a date with Jeb. Maggie goes to the antique shop, but she does not tell Jeb about Barnabas' plan instead she sends Philip to a secret meeting with Barnabas. Philips hates the Leviathan for what they have done to Megan so agrees to help Barnabas.
While Jeb and Carolyn are busy kissing, Barnabs visits Josette's grave. Her ghost appears. She tells him that the Leviathans do not hold her prisoner but he does as she hold him and its time they set each other free. She tells him that she belongs to the past and he has a future that he will meet someone else, she returns his ring telling him to give it to this someone else as a sign of his love. Josette vanishes.
When Jeb says that he wants Carolyn to be with him, think of him and dream of him, she remebers and tells him about the dream. He wants to take her to the Blue Whale to meet his friend Bruno but doesn't want to. Barnabas comes in. Carolyn runs up the stairs. An angry Jeb leaves. Barnabas phones Philip to let him know that he has a chance to "do what must be done". Philip gets the box but Jeb did not go to the Blue Whale. Jeb is about to beat Philip to death with a silver candle stick when their is a knock on the shop door. It's the special investigator looking into the murders. When he leaves, Philip starts to go out with him but Jeb says Megan would be upset if he left so Philip stays. Jeb tells Philip he has decided not to kill him. Instead if Philip ever betrays him Megan will pay for it.
Carolyn doesn't like the "pretty" picture Amy is drawing, its of a Naga. When Quenton walks in the girl is terrofied. Carolyn tells her its not the same man as the ghost. Carolyn leaves Amy alone with Quenton who swears that he's not the same Quenton. Amy runs to Jeb to tell him about a dream she had in which the ghost of Quenton told her not talk to Jeb.
While the inspector is questioning Carolyn, Philip phones to ask him to a secret meeting, while Megan is at an auction and Jeb is on a date with Carolyn. When the inspector arrives Philip says he has something to show him upstairs. Shown into Jeb's room the inspector is murdered.
Quenton shows up at Collinwood. He tells Carolyn that Jeb Hawkes murdered her father but she thinks Quenton (and Barnabas) are just tryng to keep her from dating Jeb for some unknown reason. Jeb burts in announces that the inspector has been murdered and that Philip Todd has confessed to murdering him, Carolyn's father and the sheriff. While Carolyn is on the phone to the police, Barnabas comes in. Jeb accuses Barnabas of being a traitor. Jeb is so arrogant that he doesn't care that Quenton hears him talk of the Leviathan. Barnabas finally admits he's working against the Leviathan. Jeb returns to the antique shop and hides the bat inside the Leviathan Box.
Carolyn has the nightmare, but this time it ends with her finding a body.
Barnabas gets the box and takes it to the Leviathan altar. As he raises his silver headed cane to smash the box, the box opens. The bat comes out and bites Barnabas on the neck. Jeb reclaims the box. Outside the antique store, Jeb and Quenton fight. Jeb is losing again until he pulls a dagger. He lets Quenton go saying "do you want your friend to find your body?"
At Collinwood, when Julia learns that Jeb didn't kill Barnabas she realises what he must have done instead. Julia tells Quenton that Barnabas told her about the Leviathan stones somewhere in the woods.
Barnabas resits the urge to drink Maggie Evan's blood. He goes to the Blue Whale. There he meets a woman wearing a Naga locket. He promises to take her to Jeb. Quenton and Julia show up and recognising the Naga they are afraid that Barnabas may be a Leviathan again. They have a drink at the bar. Instead of taking the woman to the antique shop, Barnabas takes her to the Old House. He questions her about her joining the Leviathan. Bruno recruited her. Bruno in turn was recruited by a Mr. Stracks. Supicious of his questioning, she pulls a knife on Barnabas. He disarms her, bites her and strangles her to death. Quenton and Julia find Barnabas and the dead body. Barnabas goes to the antique shop and after Jeb enters his room, Barnabas sets the shop on fire.
