Tossing cigarette butts at a chimp when they're done? What a stupid, idiotic thing to do. Here's to Chimpy. We are all rooting for her. I love simians, even if they do go "bananas" once in a while.

Now that Torgaman mentioned Dogs, here is another oddity about a dog in the news from a recent Midweek issue: In September, veterinarian Jon-Paul Carew of the Imperial Point Animal Hospital in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., surgically removed a 13-inch-long serrated Knife that had been swallowed by Elsie, a St. Bernard, and the dog is now doing fine. The blade was lodged between her esophagus and stomach for about four days and was detected by an X-ray. Said Elsie's owner,"She wants to eat everything and anything."
What puzzles me is how did the doctor know that the blade was inside the dog for about four days??

That's why dogs are so much better. If that had been a cat who'd eatne the knife it would've died almost immediately.

well, except for the fact that no cat would be dumb enough to swallow a knife in the first place! or pull a sled across the Iditarod...
but i do love dogs as well, just don't have the room for one here.

Still under the general category of animals, I wonder whether or not anyone else saw that segment on the TV-news about that male ROOSTER? It is a freak because it is a male Rooster who lays eggs. I believe the scientific term is Hermaphrodite. But the Rooster has a drawback in that when the news reporter broke an egg to examine its contents, it was found that its YOLK is abnormally TRANSPARENT, so it makes you wonder whether such an egg could hatch an actual chick or not. Also the egg seems to contain Mostly albumin (egg-white) as opposed to yolk content.

Methinks some mad scientist experimented with this poor rooster after watching that movie where Arnold Schwarzenneger impregnates himself.

That sounds like a cat! Cats generally like to eat and find places to sit down, and they also like to sit down. If all these things have been done, the cat considers it to be a full day and takes a break until the next day.

I'm sure that Megs will enjoy this post about a cat. It's from an actual experience I had the other day when I was visiting a friend at an apartment compex where he lives on an upper floor. As I was leaving my friend's apartment, I saw a lady several doors down leaning over the railing and looking at something. I had to go near her anyway because the elevator was near her, so as I approached her, she motioned to me to look where she was looking. What I saw was a neighbor's home whose yard had both a Dog and a Cat. The Dog was kept in a small enclosure with a fence around him but the Cat was let free to roam. The thing is that the Dog was straining with his front paws on top of the fence, barking "hysterically" at the Cat. What was REMARKABLE was that the CAT was sitting only a few inches away from the Dog! And the Cat was sitting so serenely. It was as though the Cat was daring or even taunting the fenced-in Dog. I don't know how long that "confrontation" was going on or how much longer it would last, but as I entered the elevator, the lady was still watching the scene. All I know is that as long as the Cat kept on sitting there, the Dog would keep barking. Could last for hours.

Cats can detect changes in air pressure that precede rain (they have very sensative ears). Dogs are too dumb to come in from the rain.
Cats, according to many people in the orient, can detect earthquakes. Their sensative feet feel the tremors before humans notice anything is wrong.
My nephew's dog tried to sniff a rattlesnake, it cost the dog its life. My nephew's other dog played with skunks and porcupines. Came home many nights smelling awful. My sister spent one night pulling quils out of the dumb dogs nose (that night it left the skunks alone fortunantly). It whimpered all night. Some time after that it ran off and was never seen again. Probably tried to play with a mountain lion and ended up with its throat torn out.
The cat that was smart enough to adopt me has outlived her siblings and most of my sister's families dogs.

I get up at four in the morning the other day because I have to leave by 5 to get to my job...a little after five o'clock, I am running a couple of minutes late, but am ready to go, I have my things, I open the door...the lights are out but I see two cats dash in--foop! foop! and they go right to the food plate. I have to turn the lights back on and feed them for a minute as they are obviously hungry!
I scold them but they don't listen. We had an agreement that they get fed at NIGHT, but, oh well, whattaya gonna do, they are little snuggly muffins.

Animals are people too. Unfortunately we got some new owners at the apartment here, and they are soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo insensitive about the wonderful cats that live around the building. There are not a lot of cats either, just a few, and well behaved...but these new owners have taken basically to harassing the tenants here who take care of them. Cold hearted people.
