We have 2 dogs and 3 cats. We just adopted 2 of the cats within the last 6 months in fact. The other cat , Ares,is 7 years old and he didn't think much of these new additions at first, but he's warmed up to them now. I've caught him playing with them when he thought no one was watching. All of our animals have been either rescued from pounds or strays that we've adopted. In fact our second dog, Odie, came from Cairo, Egypt and was a stray that was rescued over there when some kids were chasing him on bikes and shooting guns at him. He was very sick when we got him and emaciated, but he's recovered well and become very outgoing and friendly. He's a Pharaoh Hound and looks like Anubis. We've had him for about 3 years now, our other dog ,Baby, we got from the pound almost 7 years ago as a puppy. She's a german shepard and we think Australian herding dog mix. She was found behind a local store after someone beat her with a stick or bat. We got Ares at the same time as a kitten, now he's huge. He's the biggest cat on the block and knows it. I named him well apparently! Odie likes to play with the cats, even if they don't want to, which is always good for a laugh. The little cats will play a bit then run away and hide but Ares just gets annoyed and slaps Odie upside the head a few times. The two little cats are named Maya and Cuddles(ugh) I didn't name that one, she came named already. We were going to change it, but she knows her name, so we figured we better not. Maya is a dark calico and Cuddles is orange and white. Maya is fattening up nicely but we've only had Cuddles for about a month and she's definitelt underweight. I'd also guess she's not quite a year old yet as she's very small. She's gone through a couple different owners for various reasons, but whoever originally owned her had her declawed, but not fixed, idiots. What cracks me up about the cats and their food is the two little ones won't eat the last pieces of dry food in the dish if it sits there for more than a day. It must be stale or something, they just won't eat it. And Ares and cuddles get canned food two or three times a week( believe it or not Maya will not eat canned food! I've never seen a cat that would not eat canned food!). Well, Ares will not eat his regular dry food after that and will park himself in front of the cabinet door where the canned food is and cry and rub on me. If that doesn't work, then he stays camped out there and gives me dirty looks whenever I walk by. Now we've also started giving the dogs canned food mixed with rice (it's good for their coats)once a week too, so now whenever I use the can opener, i have a herd of animals sitting there waiting for their canned food! We also have a goldfish i named Mongo because it's a mutant. it was a stupid 50 cent feeder fish that we bought with a bunch of other fish. Well all the other more expensive supposedly heartier fish are dead an Mongo , who was about a half an inch long when we got him, is still kicking and he's now about 4 inches long!

We have two new kittens in the family. Vader is jet black and rambunctious as anything. Jango is a grey mancoon tabby and is pretty hyper as well. My Mother In Law's cat passed away and she went to the humane society to get a new one. These two scamps were cuddled together and since they are brothers my Wife got one so they wouldn't have to be seperated. We also have a long hair orange tabby named Bobba who is about three. To say he and the kittens don't like each other is an understatment, but aside from growling and hissing there has been no violent behavior from any of them. The kittens have really taken to the kids which is awesome as anything, they slept with the girls which tickled them pink. Heck the little turkeys kept me up all night because they were wired and were all over the place and wanted to be loved on. We are looking to buy a place in June so my folks have my Dog until then, that should be fun getting them to at least tolerate each other, but they will as Rocko is very passive for a dog and as long as they don't attack him he will give them a wide berth.

I was woke up at 3 AM by the sounds of a cat wailing. I went and picked up Jango who was yelling and then had blood all over my arm. The little fella apparently pulled the woofer to our surround sound down on his head. I found an emergency vet opened and the news is as best as could be expected. He suffered severe head trauma, which is what caused the bleeding. Right now the little fella is blind. They have him on an IV of steroids and anti inflamatory medicine. There were no broken bones anywhere and he was alert and even started purring. The prognosis is good, and they say the blindness may be temporary. I hate it, we have only had these little guys a week and I am in love with them. I was bawling like a pubescent girl watching Titanic. I thanked God when I found out he will probably pull through, but man. Please keep the little guy in your thoughts for me, as he and his Brother have quickly become intregal cogs in this family already. I pray he does pull through because Vader would be lost without his Brother.
[glow=green,2,300]UPDATE!!!![/glow]
The little guy's vision has returned. He is being transfered from the ER Vet to his regular one and the prognosis looks good. Vader has been looking all over for his brother, looking and meowing. These two are inseperable so I have been loving on Vader to help ease his mind.

cats- it's hard to cat proof a house. man, i'm glad to hear that he's doing well.
little bitty kitten heads don't have a lot of brains, do they? Zu once slid off my roommate's dresser (about five feet tall) behind it, pulled all the knickknacks off on top of her. she was alright, but scared. we were home, so we moved it and she ran to my room, under the bed with a huge puffed tail.
keep us posted Chad (it's cool you named him after the 60s Italian spaghetti western series star...).

Did anybody read in this Sunday's paper in the color-section "USA-Weekend" that Cats can cry actual TEARS? But are those tears due to physical cause or emotional cause? Also, scientists are still Skeptical, but the columnist, Steve Dale, who writes the column, says that he's gotten dozens of letters from readers about crying pets. So do we believe the skeptical scientists or do we believe the pet-owners? Have any of you cat-owners witnessed this phenomenon? Preston

The tears can probably come from both causes. I wouldn't doubt the emotional factor though, because they definitely have feelings, are intelligent, and remember things.

Now that we have the kittens all healed up and fine we may lose our oldest, Boba, to Feline Infectious Peritontis. We will find out Tuesday and if he has it we will likely have to put him down. We have him quarintined in my Mother In Law's room. He is a sweet cat. He is and indoor-outdoor cat(My Mother In Law kept him for us while we were in our other place) and he probably caught it from another cat outside as the kittens have been given clean bills of health. If Boba does pull through he will become strictly an indoor cat which is my preference anyway. There are too many variables and diseases that you can't control outside.

Thanks! Remember me, Pica the matriarch? When those 2 tabby kittens arrived, I was about 4 and second in command after the dog [ and I don't mean the dog on my right, wiseguy]. No way was I gonna let them move in on my turf. Every chance I got, I'd hiss and swat at 'em, even while the little tikes were asleep. Disdain oozed from my cranky face every time they drew near. Well, I fell ill about 6 months ago and guess what? They took care of me, comforted me, licked me and layed with me hoping I would feel better. I did recover and ever since then, those guys are my pals. In fact, I take turns dating them (though Harly is my fave hunk). Hey, three's a crowd! Are ya deaf? Beat it we said!! What's he got that I haven't got? Ah hon, don’t be jealous. The best of friends and co-plotters in mischievous, feline activities.

Those are some awfully cute cats Lunk! About a month ago we adopted a litter of 8 little kittens whose mother stopped taking care of them.They were only 6 weeks old! They are doing very well, my wife bottle feeds them every night and they eat canned food and hard cat food softened in warm water, and the regular hard food too. Our 2 older cats have resigned themselves to their presence, though surprisingly our older male likes them(he cleans them and plays if you aren't looking) but our younger female really doesn't like them and hisses if they get near her.The 2 dogs like them ok, as the little ones are constantly grabbing their legs and tails. It's great to have all these little kittens running around getting into everything, but we plan to find homes for at least 4 of them.Of course whether we'll actually be able to part with them is another thing!!

Someone hit our Trailer with their car at 4 yesterday morning. It caused the TV in the kids room to fly off the computer desk and into the chair. Our cat Jango happened to be sleeping in the chair. He ended up having one of the ball joints on his femur sheared clear off the bone and will have surgery on Monday to insert pins. It was a 16 year old girl and her Dad is paying for all of Jango's vet bills.

as some people know, Zu kitty got out two weeks ago and hasn't been back. it's been hard for me, and i didn't want to whine about it too much. i'm still hopeful she will return, but i want to be realistic as well
i did get a new 7 month old tortie last Tuesday, who is very nice to have around. her name is Dacya. i'll post a picture at some point.

He had surgery yesterday and is supposed tro come home. It cost $950 for both vet visits. The little girl's Dad tried to say he talked to my cousin that told him the cat's leg was already broken. He got down right rude. My cousin called his little gril, caught her saying she had a friend call and pretend to be my cousin and then she told her Dad. The vet also told him that it was a new injury due to the lack of healing and inflamation. That damn girl did nothing but lie the entire time after she did this, and yet he still wants to believe her? I know she is 16, but they were drinking and she hauled ass when she saw us on the porch. Paint and fiberglass from her car are still on our trailer hitch. The guy isn't denying she did it, but it whizes me off that he got rude. I think his issue is the amount of money. He just better count himself lucky. We called the police but they didn't file a report. Instead they showed up at her job and got her folks' phone number which she refused to give to my Mother In Law. Had she not a report would have been filed. We didn't tell the Cops about the drinking, but we told her Dad. I want the kid to learn her lesson, but not complicate her life as long as she learned her lesson. It is typical for a kid to cover their ass, but his insistence to fail to see her kid is a party girl is why the kid is the way she is. Jango is oaky now, that is the only reason I am leaving it alone, but karma is a wonderful thing and the girl and her Dad will eventually be taken to the cleaners by somebody because she is a spoiled brat whom Daddy enables.
I am very sorry to hear about Zu Dave.
